  1. Fogstar drift batteries

That is exactly the set up I am looking at for my upgrade, may just have room for the 460ah one though..
  2. Newbie

Kevin, if your van is all mechanically sound, I would keep it, and just change internal layouts over the winter. We have changed the bench seat to 2 comfy reclining seats, and maybe considering changing the bed configuration around. We will never sell ours, as we use it so much in winter...
  3. Advice on buying a motorhome private

Already mentioned, but the MOT history check is vital, to see how well it's been mechanically looked after over the last 9 years, and it's easy on the DVLA website
  4. Outer Hebrides

For places to stay, maybe start here as a guide. Obviously plenty more on the location app on here as well. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@57.6139565,-7.4808005,7.46z/data=!4m2!6m1!1s12kBJRXPkxX3HjCMcZX6GBw2mlbrbPjHD?hl=en-GB&authuser=0&entry=ttu
  5. B2B and Victron IP22 sharing cables to battery bank?

Not entirely relevant, but I have never had more than 42Amps out of my Sterling 50A B2B, even with heavily discharged battery. This is because the 50A rating is Amps IN to the B2B from the alternator. With inefficiencies, and the B2B output being higher than alternator voltage, you will never...
  6. From Scotland to England, over Coldstream Bridge.

Carlisle shops won't accept payment for alcohol from a Scottish address. (I know, since we have tried!!)
  7. Calor bottles

At the moment they are only available from official calor distribution centres. I have been getting my 3.9Kg 's from Carlisle over the last year. You have to ring for an 'appointment' to collect them (on exchange). Max 2 per customer.
  8. Planned speed limits Scotland

We have exactly that system here in Dumfriesshire, where the A75 passes through a 30 limit village, lights turn red if you go more than 30 towards them...I quite like the system, as it does the job of keeping repeat offenders in check, without recourse to cameras, fines etc.
  9. CCSW helping to sell my motorhome.

Just for balance, I have 4 vehicles insured with AF (M/home, kit car and 2 classic cars), and cant fault the service or prices... (I also have 2 cars insured with LV, and they have just ramped the premiums up by 60% for no real reason .....)
  10. Tyre pressure monitors. To buy or avoid.

Had bad experiences with tyrepal, with sensors failing, with water ingress (despite checking o rings, and being hypercritical with them). Replacement sensors are available, but at around £30 each... ouch!! Have gone back to a cheap ebay set at £15 (goes up to 6 bar), and its fine (for now!).

  12. Hi! Hope to soon be a motorhome owning mostly wild camper (ABSOLUTE noob).

Jamie, Welcome and a great introduction, perhaps a story quite familiar to some of us.... For a new to you van, I would always first consider one that comes with a personal recommendation, you may want to check out the van for sale on here from Annsman, as it's right in your budget. Otherwise...
  13. I wonder if more folks will do this?...

In our village, the only way developers can build new houses is to match them with affordable houses (and that's genuinely affordable on minimum wage) as well, seems to work well for everyone. However, the average rent for a decent 2 bed house or flat is still generally no more then £500 PCM...
  14. I wonder if more folks will do this?...

Not sure if anyone realises that they may have to move to get affordable housing. Here in Dumfries and Galloway, houses can still be bought for less than £90k, they may need a bit of decorating but that's all. I rent out a newly renovated 2 bed 200 year old terrace house with large garden in a...
  15. A view about the NC500.

There is only one full time policeman for the enormous geographical area of north Sutherland... .....
  16. A view about the NC500.

The locals despise this particular individual as well, and he apparently drives out at night and blows his car horn next to any campers in off road spots.. (I was up there last week, farm working with a very good friend who owns a large croft nearby - I have been going for over 30 years -...
  17. Dartmoor wildcamping is legal - for now.

This just makes me feel so lucky to live in Scotland where we have a legal right to roam (obviously with some very sensible minor restrictions). Whenever I go walking in England I get so frustrated at the 'private land, no access' signs!
  18. Baldicci door catches.

Just another tip, i have used amazon (germany) and they ship to UK almost as quick as normal, you just have to log on the german site separately. I got a couple of brake discs within 2 days from germany when they were out of stock in UK, and didnt cost any extra for postage. maybe amazon (Italy)...
  19. A safe stop between Glasgow and Oban

Largs is a long way off Glasgow to Oban route!! (But thanks for the tip..)
  20. A safe stop between Glasgow and Oban

I would recommend any of these sites (£7 a night). https://forestryandland.gov.scot/stay-the-night
