Trip to France

Sat in the ferry queue.

Stayed at Wissant last night, not the nicest site bit looked good for one night, it wasn't, we had a german family of cyclists who were holding a door slamming contest for about an hour before they left, we ad a converted ambulance next to us, it had a very loud night heater cutting in and out all night, it was 19c in our cab, we seem to be parked next to some sort of menagerie or aviary as there were all sorts of noises including a decking cock at silly o clock, at 03.4 bloody 9 some tw@ arrives and starts shoiting direction to the poor woman driver of some crappy van.

The site itself wasn't too bad but very run down, and looks to be about become another pay as you enter type, all the cables and pipe work is there ar the entrance no way to get water or empty a cassette that we could see, only a grey drive over.

Not sure if you're cut out for aires life, if so many things bother you. Lucky you didn't get caught up in a big bike race coming through. They have their priorities right over there.

Only pulling your leg Kev. I never eat on Ferries so can't comment on the food. The stuff I have seen in the past though looks a bit grim.
Of course I expect nothing else mate.

However we take a backpack with us, we have 6 bottles of apple and orange juice, 4 yoghurts, two lovely big chocolate muffins, several packets of biscuits, plus the bacon sarnies cups of coffee etc.

I have opinions and I'll share them korky, would you prefer if no one said anything and you found out for yourself?

I did that in a posh hotel in London once when I was in my 20s. Long story but I was in the final of a competition and they just said help yourself to whatever you want and put it on the room. We cleared out the mini bar (champagne etc) and drank and scoffed it all on the train on the way home. 🤣

Are you home yet ........ or are you on lap two of Europe now you've re-aquainted yourself with their strange habits ......... 🤔😃

We'll be home by Friday, we like to drive around the lower part of the country whilst down here, screwed up yesterday though, went to Dungeness, heard it was a bit quirky there, it is, but the roads are horrendously bad, were up around Oxford tonight, going to the cotswolds tomorrow, watched the RAFs planes flying around at Brize Nortin this afto.

Ferkin ell! I can't keep up! Do you have a flipping Chinook carrying that van around? I've been in Flamborough for over a week and I've not even got as far as Filey yet! :D Are you going to Diddly Squat for Cow Juice?

Nah, too noisy, we got an Apache to keep away the riff raff.

The trouble is when we stop we both start reading, we like reading but not for hours on end, when driving the view is constantly changing and we like that we stopped in 4 or 5 villages yesterday had a good day but picked a bad night stop near the A40, can't move on fast enough but her ladyship is still akip zzzzzzzzz

Liz mentioned going there so we might.

I do like touring about seeing new (and old) places on the bike so similar really. Just don't like driving the van anymore.

Oxfords nice. Traffic nightmare though. The Downs are lovely also. Henley is nice, too posh for you. 🤣 ask me about the Henley hitch hiking story sometime.

Some lovely villages in Oxfordshire Barry and some lovely tucked away village pubs which I'm hoping will allow overnighting.

Luckily for me I'm a posh bloke so should get preference over the riff raff.

Agreed. I have family in Wantage just south of Oxford and one of my oldest clients is in Oxford. Been a regular visitor since I was a child. Many happy memories of that area. I almost moved there in the 80s after finishing college. Couldn't find a job ooop North and ended up at my uncles place for a few weeks supposedly job hunting but mainly on the piss and the pull. I actually got offered a job at the University and Habitat and almost took one of them. Couldn't afford to live there though as the wages compared to house prices were terrible. Reluctantly went back home with my tail between my legs and landed a job 200 yards from where I lived in Darlo. 😁

I'm quite fond of the accents darn sarf, but we thought we might like a ride on the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, so as we actually passed there we called in, and this woman behind the counter had the worst voice ever, sounded like Hyacinth Bucket, only more put on, kept saying thing like it's entirely up to you of course really condescending and false when baulked at the 17 quid price each, no wonder we were the only ones there, we left.

Be proud of us though, we normally get 2 or 3 Costa coffees a day, but not bought any yet, we just use the Costa insulated cups and make our own now saving us a small fortune.

I went on the RH & D nearly 60 years ago Kev. I'm sure the same woman worked there then.

I've lived in Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire for the last 35 years and before that in Essex but I am originally from the Midlands. I've worked in London for most of my working life.

When ever I go back to Loughborough my old mates reckon I sound like a chirpy cockney sparrer but where I live now they reckon I sound like one of you common norverners!

I thought I detected a bit of midlands northern twang in your voice. Just.

One things for sure, I bet snooty Hyacinth Bucket thought Kev was speaking Swahili! :ROFLMAO:

Soooooo.

We drove over to Diddly Sqaut more out of curiosity really, went past at 09.34 and it was rammed to the gates, but the roads are really suffering, best thing to do would be to stay on the camp site right next door, but it too was ram jam full.

Was the new car park not operational? There was hardly anyone there when we went two years ago. Mainly Kaleb and his mates sat in the barn drinking beer.

Dunno mate, not been before soon idea if any of it was new or not, just that another few cars and it would be roadside parking.

When he says the farm is losing money, he must not be including the shop etc.
