Trip to France

Looking for disabled toilet POIs.

There is an app called AccessLoos, but they are very widely spaced.

Does anyone know of a better one?

Also is there away to look at the WC apps POIs zoomed further out?

Have you tried https://www.toiletmap.org.uk/ and selecting the "Accessible" filter?
I'm not aware of an app for this, but it should be possible to add it to a smartphone or tablet home screen in the same way as one can do with the WildCamping Location App.
The WildCamping POIs that one selects as favourites seem to remain visible as others disappear as one zooms out; Phil is the person who can tell you whether it can be done with others, but I would think that it's doubtful.

No Tom, that one didn't come up but looks a good one to have, sadly not so many in France :( :(

I'll add it to my phone bookmarks and create an icon on the phone for it.

Kev, you didn't say that you wanted them in France! I know that the thread title refers to France, but these things have a habit of drifting.
Have a look at https://www.toilettespubliques.com/toilettes-a-proximite
You have a wheelchair icon. You also have a button "Voir seulement les toilettes accessibles PMR". The results of pressing on either should be to show only those toilets accessible to persons with limited mobility.
"PMR" (personne à mobilité réduite) is probably a handy term to remember (pronounced "Pay-emM-aiR").

The more you zoom in, the more icons appear.
There is also an Android app, "Carte des toilettes en France". Play store doesn't put it at the top of the hits despite it being the only exact match of the search. It's shown as being by Hector Dubosc.

What!!! a thread drifting off-topic, not on my watch Tom lad.

Yes it is for France.

Not sure what the wheelchair icon does actually after pressing it or clicking a loo it doesn't seem to change anything.

Ah, click it and you lose a lot of loos :D :D so I assume they are disabled, I'll save that one with an icon aswell thanks again Tom.

I do have another called Wheelmate which I have used often, I just thought I ought to look at that one too an lo and wassaname:-

Yes I knew that, Liz likes to look at an area to see what's there to stay at and having to zoom in is great for detail but not as good for an overview.

I wonder if I might employ Maps.me and just have the WC POIs on it, as I stopped using it in favour of the much better Organic maps app.

Abandon that, I was a founder user of Maps.me and it was supposed to be free for life as I paid for a lifetime licence, it used to be really quite good, but then they started pandering to cyclists and walkers, now it's £30 + per year no way it's worth that and never was, so I just have to rename the files so they don't get confused with the others then I can turn them on and off as needed.

Why bother using maps.me? As you say, Organic maps is better. You can easily select which set of POIs to display at any time.

Exactamundo Tom, and what I'm doing, that's why I said I'd rename them, I'm in contact now with the chap who does the app, I'm trying to get it so you can have icons if you want instead of pins, as I forget what colour is for what.

Ho Ho Ho! Wait until you discover the French hole in the ground squat toilets!! Thats a whole new ball game for you. 🤣

I've never bothered with van security, but with us going to be so far from home, I am now, what might be the best visible deterrent, I'm thinking along the lines of the steering wheel disc type of thing rather than the bar type.

I did think of the pedal box types but they're already in before that works.

Any opinions.

Just had a look at Travel insurance quotes for both of us, seems a bit odd that if you do multiple trips it's cheaper.

I forgot the one Steve mentioned and the quote is a lot better, thanks Steve.

Never bothered with anything Kev. France is generally safer than Telly Tubby land if you stick to the rural Aires etc. cities and large towns maybe not so much. Just do the same as you do here. Your a veteran wild camper so you will know when something don't feel right.

I know your not keen on trying Aires but some are smashing and nearly always wide open spaces with lots of vans about and of course people. If I were a thief it's the last place I would go to break into a motorhome. Anyway. Windows are always the weakest point of contact and there isn't much you can do about them. Nobody is going to nick your van for sure.

I'm not bothered about using an Aire if we're not crowded in or if we're stuck finding a spot for the night, as for security, it applies at home too, It's just something I have never done, but we've had a few cars nicked at the bottom of the street so scrotes are wandering around. I park it were it is quite difficult to back out if you don't know how to maneuver.
