Trip to France

Not extracting Barry, what should I use?

View attachment 128165

The look extracted to me. You just right click on the zip file and click extract. Usually into a folder.

Then you should be able to import them into Autoroute. You might not want them all though. These are the ones you probably want (From the instructions in that zip)

Nope, all I get with the right clicky.

Duh, yeah of course, been a long week.

Did you have a good day yesterday?

What happened yesterday? Was I there?

If you mean my Birthday it was two days ago! Yeah it was alright. Dont ever watch Chicken Run the mutts Nuggets or whatever its called. Shite.

The ACF designation can now be interpreted as ACcueil à la Ferme and includes not only campsites on farms but also agricultural premises accepting motorhomes for overnight stopovers, sometimes free of charge in the hope that produce will be purchased; a lot of these agricultural premises are in fact vineyards.

You got it to work ok then. Im sure I had various POI for Autoroute. Mainly all the Aires and wild spots off CC Infos (The French site) I think. No idea where they are though. It was a couple of laptops ago. Probably dumped them but I wonder if you can still get them off CC Infos. I had the same ones on Autoroute as I had on my TomTom.
The CCI POIs for satnavs have their uses, but definitely worth checking aires of interest either through the CCI website or using the Aires CCI Android app. The latter costs €5 for 3 months for full functionality and it is possible to download data, including user comments and photos for use offline. With Google Translate installed on your device, you can get translations into English (but need to be online for that).

Yes I always found the CC Infos site worked better for auto translating in Chrome. Im not sure if there are maybe better sites out there now but I always found CC Infos had a few gems hidden away that were just unofficial overnight (Wild) spots. That list Kev has downloaded should be up to date though. Whether he can get them working in Autoroute is another matter. :)

Well, I got my passport yesterday so it looks like we are going to France, starting at Dunkirk, Normandy landings, American cemetery etc, then who knows, we do like coast roads, but French villages are lovely too.

I have been before twice, once in 89 and again in 95 both times on Motorcycle so doing it on the wrong side of the road is a bit daunting in a RHD Motorhome, also the rules have changed a bit so I am out of touch now.

So we're planning on 5-6 weeks end of March or Mid April time to set off, but no idea really when is best but we are pretty clueless as to what we have to have with us,.

As we are so far 100% wild campers, I am unsure of the etiquette etc on airs and other places and will try not to use them so any and all tips are most welcome.
You will need Hi Viz jackets x 2, Red triangles x 2, you might need breathalizer kits, check that you number plates are correct, if you are stopped by the fuz and fined they want cash or they will escort you to the nearest cash machine, you will need an adaptor for the LPG nozzle, it's almost impossible to have UK gas bottles refilled. If you have a Sat Nav then turn off the Speed camera detection. Do watch out for speed bumps they can be very high. Don't use motorway rest areas for sleeping, Otherwise have a great time, we love France but I'm unable to get overseas insurance now, :-((

Cheers and welcome to the forum Duke, I have all of it covered but for the breathalizer kits, I don't think they are needed now, it was mentioned up the thread somewhere, but we don't drink anyway.

Didn't know 2 red triangles were needed either?
Not so sure they are, only got 1 anyway.

If you google it some say two some say one. I still have mine in its wrapper along with the cheap as chips hi viz jackets I bought in 2008 off ebay still in their wrappers under the seat. The only item I have used over the years is the spare bulb kit, generally for blown bulbs around the van interior! :D

UK may say that, I was asked are you from the Ukrainian then not so nice words of where I should go!
When I told the officer it is not GB now he said it is to us!
In truth nobody cares apart from us about rules, it's a national obsession in the UK not much of the EU in my observation

Yes, the POIs should be up-to-date but they only tell you the geographic coordinates. The app or website will give a lot more info, including a link to Street View and in most cases user comments and photos. I'd recommend downloading the POIs again a few days prior departure to have the most up-to-date version.
