Trip to France

Can you ride Tandem?

I said CAN YOU RIDE A FECKING TANDEM YOU FRENCH PERSON YOU?

This is a good phrase you must try when entering your local Boulangerie or Boucharie Kev. (Thats Bakery and Butchers)

"Je pète dans votre direction générale! ta mère était un hamster et ton père sentait le sureau!"

Its a traditional French welcome always used in small village shops. They will be delighted when you use it.

Oh thanks so much Barry, I'll be sure to try that one.

What about Medical, I'm building up our meds so we don't run out, and I'll make a special order two weeks before we go, but what if we fall ill or have an emergency while away we have our ehic or whatever it is called cards, but is there anything else to take care of?
Axa Schengen Travel Insurance, Kev. No Age questions/penalties, and if your trip is for 60 days or less, there are no Health Questions, either. We took the next one up from Low Cost [which offers something like €30,000 hospital fees, BUT, it leaves the 'well' party to fend for themselves, make their own way home, pay for any extra accommodation etc]. Our 60 days Schengen Europe Policy cost €258 [£225.10] in December 2023

As a comparison, the Schengen Low Cost Policy is €22 for 7 days; the Schengen Europe Travel costs €33 for 7 days [€144 and €226 respectively for you and Liz, for 6 weeks, 9th April to 20th May 2024. Application is online, and policy is emailed to your laptop or phone etc, so really convenient to carry with you

Steve

Liz and I just had a chat about what if I fall ill while away, I said I could add her the the insurance, but she said she didn't fancy driving it back from the south of England never mind the south of France.

Problem, no as it happens I rang Britannia Rescue our breakdown company backed by LV, and they just send a relief driver, al part of what I already have sorted, so that's a relief.

Travel insurance looks mega expensive though, she's looking into it right now, but I've still got investigations going on, so we need to wait to see what they reveal before buying anything, one quote was over £700.

If the policy is similar to mine with Safeguard, they will not provide a relief driver if a pre-existing condition prevents you from driving.
Has Liz checked Axa Schengen travel insurance recommended by @marchie ?

It's the breakdown insurance who provide the relief driver not the travel insurance, I rand just before posting to check it out.

No not checked Steve's yet, going to leave it until after my next cancer investigation.
Same here re relief driver, but my breakdown insurance will not cover doing so in the case of pre-existing conditions; worth checking your small print.

I just emailed them asking for T&Cs and the repatriation of the van and Liz, also that the cover would continue as the cover ends on May 2nd.

Actually, you've suggested worse ideas.

Its not like your going to outer Mongolia! It looks unlikely yet again that we will get across the water this year now but Ive never bothered about stuff like this or travel insurance although the latter is now up for debate as to if you really require it by law or that if you do its been enforced. I deliberately took Michelle off our van insurance years ago in case our recovery people insisted she drove it home as a named driver if anything happened to me. I think I was then "verbally" told by the insurance company that they would not force her to drive it home anyway and someone would recover it and us.

A couple of years ago I would have been in two minds about it, to be honest, but with heart problems a possibility, and other ailments I just think it wise to have the cover plus the van is getting on, not as old as yours but spares may be an issue even in France peace of mind makes for a better holiday.
