Yeah, but you were never a small trader where actual cash can actually be very important, and not just for the usual accusations of “tax avoidance” either, before anyone piles in!
I guess more people in that situation are stashing it under their mattresses or getting themselves home safes.
“Cashing up” and nipping to the local bank to deposit the surplus for safekeeping, or getting enough “coinage” for change, has got to be a bit of a nightmare now when all your local bank branches have disappeared - and who knows what the new owner of our once great Post Office is planning to do with the remaining PO branches that operate as “proxy” bank branches in future?
I regularly come across quite a few small traders (of all kinds!) who have traded only in cash since the pandemic. They appear to have good reasons to do so.
We have to 'look after' a relatives banking, back in the day when he could go into a bank it was easier, now we do most online for him, but being too honest for our own good sometimes we need to take him into the mobile bank when it turns up, can be a PITA.
