Vehicle average MPG ?

Just to be a smug Git, van is stationary on North Devon right now for a good while. I kept a record of the last three fills on the Honda Biff Chariot and they are averaging out at 129mpg. 🤣
Yeah but what's its payload? 1 FB. How many berths? 0.

actually it's payload is probably not that far off some of the modern rubbish that gets churned out these days, 170kg I think. Don't need to kip on it as it just wafts me along back to the van!! 🤩

Can get mine down to about 13mpg on a good run.
My 2010 Iveco 50c15, platform, 3.0hpi, remapped at 186bhp, 520 torques:
Computer is so far out compared to mileage between fill ups;
Computer down to 11.3 mpg if I ever hit a long incline for 5 mins or more & figure never goes back up,
Easy urban @ 20 mpg,
Motorway/dual carriageway 60mph = 27/28 mpg,
Motorway @> 75mph = @20 mpg,
Heavy foot over all conditions = <20mpg,
Light foot over all conditions = >22mpg.
3.0L single turbo engine & 5.2 tonne GVW capable of carrying up to three kayaks, motorbikes, diving gear, tools, supplies, etc., whilst remaining within legal weights (too many 3.5t are loaded to unsafe weights IMHO).
I do not believe the computer consumption as it is shockingly low after climbing a hill (UK model but is the computer conversion into US gallons?).
A brilliant power plant, particularly for Alpine/Pyrenees while carrying so much "playtime" equipment but need to be careful of a heavy foot.
(I know the limit for the heavy vehicle is 60mph but as a politician would say,
"I did not try the > 75mph on public roads... honest officer).

Has anyone ever had an engine re-map and if so did it make any difference??
I had a remap box fitted (not a remap of the ECU). It made a huge difference in the performance, but not a noticeable difference to the mpg.

🤔Would that also work the OTHER way through,,,
Meaning 23-24 ish mpg 🤷🏻‍♂️
Probably not. Speedometers are not allowed to read low at all. Petrol pumps are not allowed to read low at all (I think).

The variable variabilities can go either way but the fixed ones always increase your apparent mpg.

Bit late but here goes, fill to fill 32.4 mpg mixed roads, last fill all motorway, 33mpg. 2014 boxer 3500kg van conversion. NOW, last week I was parked next to a guy with a similar 3500kg van with a 2022 fiat who claimed to get 37mpg but he uses a splash of Redex additive and insists it runs better and quieter, anyone else use additives to help mpg ?

I used to to then a few people said (obviously) even if it helps with MPG if cost is the issue then adding Redex etc adds to the cost, so I used up what I had and have not bothered in anythign since, snake oil? dunno.

It's an upper cylinder lubricant so I could see a point with petrol as that washes the bores, but Diesel is more oilier by nature.

Add a cup full of Diesel to your tank Kev, you'll probably get a couple of extra miles per tank full.

I’ve tried a cpl of different types & makes of ‘Fuel Additives’,
If I had to be honest I’m going to say that -
A TOP Quality Fuel, used Consistently for 5 or 6 Tank top ups, (So say over 2000 miles) of Good long runs with a Bottle of Diesel magic, Turbo, RedX or whatever else takes your fancy added at every one of those fill ups Certainly ‘Appears’ to have sorted some issues Boxy had a while ago. I STILL put a tankful of what might be considered ‘Decent’ fuel through with a Bottle of something added now & again.
I think it’s just like a vehicle equivalent to Viagra. Performance seems to be noticeable for a while, Then Boxy just wants to sleep 🤷🏻‍♂️

A ggod hard run works best, all additives have been tested along with oil additives, only a few do any good and mainly used in the marine trade to stop diesel bug in tanks that stand for mths on end.
One report on slick 50 made it clear that it caused more harm than good over 100.000 miles tested in N York taxies, build up and cloging of oil galories.
Also there is only about 2% in the bottle of which the rest is oil, PTFE dont bont to any surface below 180c.
AS for fuel cleaners the only one that got a thumbs up was called seafoam which is only sold in the USA as far as i know.
Many oil filters got a slating to as poor build and did little good if any.
Fact is change oil often and give the engine a hard run, dont leave fuel sitting in a tank for long periods, if you must then fill to top and add quicksilver or other top range fuel stabilizer and bug stop, dont use summer diesel in winter time as it will turn to jelly.

You can get Seafoam here Trev. I have a bottle myself.
