Vehicle average MPG ?

Surely there must be loads of 3/4 year old ones in the scrap yard Trev.
Last built 1997, one here but chap wont break or let me open the diff, just sitting there doing nout, he wants to sell the van compleat for a grand, no mission.

Soooo,
As some might know I’ve had a new Symbiotic relationship & Home in the form of ‘MO’ for the last 18month or so now. (A 4000Kg Vauxhall Movano 2017 Luton Box)
& the average figure for MPG has kinda remained constant doing short ish trips most days of between around 10/20miles OCCASIONALLY punctuated by a good unbroken long blow out trip of 70/100mile ish say once every 10Days or so.
I Normally travel on A roads to cover distance, Then wiggle & Shuffle the last bit to a chosen park up. I move at least 5 out of every 7 days all year around even in the Scottish Gales, Snow & Ice when safe to do so.
The AVE MPG has been-
Filling up is an Expensive Business ! 😳
IMG_8026.jpeg

307miles
63.5lt
= 24.1ish MPG
At £100.79p
That’s 33p ish per mile 😳🫣
But THATS at Superdooper Shell diesel prices of almost £1.59p per litre as apposed to £1.43p per litre at Morrisons that would mean it would be around £10 cheaper at every fill up & saving around 4p per mile cheaper.

(Yeah was board for 15min 🤣🤣)

I have & Do obviously get more MPG on a long run, but the above is a reflection of ‘AVE’ MPG across Multiple Road & Traffic conditions between Fill ups.
Another thing to mention is I ‘Try’ & put 4 supermarket fill ups to 1 Superdooper Shell Fill up as in my mind it’s a better thing to do 🤔.
Again although the Price per fill would change, I can’t actually say that I’ve noticed the AVE MPG has, because I’ve always done this 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a 2014 Boxer 435 van conversion but it has the more powerful 150?bhp engine and it returns 32.9mpg around town/A roads and up to 36mpg on longer motorway runs, this is the best I’ve ever had from a van, previous 2016 ducato was 30 ish and 2016 relay was similar but I don’t have to worry about adblue any longer and it pulls like a train. 😬

That’s BRILLIANT 👍😊
MO is the 2.3CDTI with this blinking Adblue stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just find it helpful to know these mundane things while mulling over a coffee.
For example, in Addition to my £2000 fixed safety net, & for Budget purposes MO requires around the £150 PCM (Or as I do it £1800 per year) set aside in my Vehicle account for -.
Tax
Ins
Breakdown/Recovery
Windshield
MOT
1 Garage service per year
Ware & Tear consumables
(Wipers, Bulbs, Screen Wash, Oil, Brake & Steering fluids etc.
PLUS
Around £0.35p per mile for Fuel & Adblue) 🤔.

This is probably equivalent to my Coffee & Donut Budget.

I dont pay much attention to it but the average fuel trip meter on my 2015 Ducato 2.3, 8 metre+ 4.25t Swift Esprit is all over the place. I dont pay much attention to to it. I did a couple of brim to brim calculations last summer and I think it was about 24 mpg which considering I have a heavy right foot I thought was ok. Mainly motorway and A roads. I generally cruise around 70 on the motorway.

The trip meter is hopelessly optimistic, so brim-to-brim refills is the only reliable measure.

I leave my trip meter on the Instant Consumption setting and have seen how the consumption rises if you don't lift the foot when I reach cruising speed, or if I open the throttle on a climb instead of changing down a gear. Quite an eye opener!

The Owner's Manual says max torque is at 1900-2100rpm, but as the engine has loosened up, it now sits happier at around 2300-2400rpm and gives better fuel economy
