Trip to France

Lovely spot tonight, we even went for a short walk, it's not long since we would stroll for a couple of miles and then walk back but that was when I was a working stuff and could throw 25kg rolls of cable about and carry two boxes of paper up 3 flights of stairs then go made redundant and no one wanted a driver my age of 59, and the trips got less and less and I sat more and more and here I am invalid in more ways than one.


Nah not me, too stupid to be hissed off about it, I got to step off the grind stone 6 years early thanks to the stupid pension credit loophole and no jobs and Liz was able to avoid the harsh realities of the women's pension cock up ( I do hope they pay all the ladies whos retirements they truly ruined) too so not really complaining, it is what it was.

On tonight's little wander, not long enough to call a walk really :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:😆😆😆

I think you will enjoy the South of France. Cut a line from Provence around Lac St Croix all the way back across to the Dordogne and its all nice really. I would maybe avoid the med coast if I were you unless you have a real desire to see St Tropez, Nice etc. I love it down there but you really need secondary transport and its not very motorhome friendly. Then there is the Pyrenees of course! :D
 
Not going darn sarf I'd like to go over the pyrenees of course as would Liz if we could find a softer option for her, I visited Logrono in 89 lovely town but I think too far this time.

Any ideas for a less stressful route over?

Kev. If you are already near Grenoble you are already in the south of France!



This is an absolute very rough idea of where I would possibly head. I would do Provence then maybe the Ardeche and work my way west and either up to Rocamadore and across the Dordogne or drop down to the Pyrenees. Ive just put the route to Gavarnie on there which is fantastic but all of it is from Bagneres du Luchen across to Cauterets you can usually get in and out to the various hot spots of the Pyrenees without going over any of the big passes. The road up to Gavarnie from Lourdes is an absolute piece of pish. No more scary than driving over the A66 to the Lake District.

Yes, same for me. Provence, Ardeche, Cevennes national parks, can't go wrong on that route really. Same rules, keep off main roads and do the small ones, you won't get anywhere fast but it will all be a treat.
Get yourself some proper Puy lentils along the way too.

Just a quick reminder that Wednesday this week is VE Day, Thursday is Ascension Day and Friday is used as a “pont” (bridge) to the weekend so in effect everybody is off work for a very long weekend. Loads of folk about on sites and aires and shop hours will vary from normal.

People slag off Lourdes but I think its a cracking place to visit if you can get down to the Basilica. Yes the shops are full of religious tat but there is a real atmosphere around the Basilica and square. You will see what I mean if you get there. Torchlit precession every evening as well. Best thing about it is there is a straight and easy drive into the Pyrenees to Gavarnie after there. I sent you my Pyrenees guide didnt I? It will be out of date now but still useful I would think. A lot of nice places for you to see between now and there though.

If that's the one in the Ardeche it's literally 20 miles from Valon Pont D'Arc and the Gorges Ardeche. Not sure if you are up to Kayaking but it's fantastic along there. Not expensive and they pick you up down river. If not the drive along the gorges is a goodun and not scary.
 
I think this thread is going to crack 1 farsand posts I can't see the views on the phone.

I was just thinking about when I was looking for a map to work with, well we bought a Europe map so I could look at where the borders were, and we bought a France atlas too both have been use full but the best one has been this fold up Michelin one, notmuch bigger than my phone but loads of good detail.

Pics if you want to get one I paid €3 in a petrol station last week when I filled up with PGL.

This is the third aire we've stayed at, again full of Richard Craniums with the shite boom boom row as loud as possible and the road nearby must be a bikers test track, they were really going for it all night.

In future we'll find our own places and just use AIRES as service points or as backup.
