over use caused by WEBSITE BLOCKED BY ADMIN

Well thank goodness for that Phil, just spent an hour searching the net for "website blocked by admin" for a list of great wilding spots but couldn't even find a website going by that name;)
Must admit did the same!

Apart from the abuse issue it is mainly the ease of finding a spot to over use, creating a resason for the LA to put in place restrictions that I complain about.

You don’t seem to understand that you are also the cause of the problem, what makes you better than the ‘self converted van’?, are you a NIMBY at home? What if this ‘secret place’ is also on other websites and all and sundry descend on it?, if you want to appear a better camper than everyone else I suggest you act like the ‘better person’ and just move on, or, heaven forbid, PAY for somewhere to park.

Well yes you are not wrong there Harry. Facebook and the internet are flooded now with "off grid", "Cheap park ups" etc type groups and the various now well known search websites are stuffed full of them. That Genie cant be put back in the bottle sadly. Gone are the days where we discreetly shared wild spots on here or via the members only POI database although I am sure there will be some in there the newbies and Facebook haven't found. Victims of our own success perhaps.

I feel your frustration. Its probably why I wild camp less and less and only in a few known spots. Kev has the right idea. Just pick one where you can only get one van in or like he does, park in such a way that nobody else can squeeze in 🤣

I think this is why Aires happened in France. Too many vans, not enough places to park up.

I agree, some folk can’t afford gin palace motorhomes. They do what they can afford and get out there. Good luck to them, and I was once in their position.

The other day we pulled up to one of our favourite spots where we are usually the only motorhome and as we approached, I was pleased to note that there were no height barriers yet as I suspect there will be soon. However, I was dismayed to note that there were four wagons there already (one an “a” class, forgotten which make, was pushed through the hedge at the rear) and the only space that I can completely fit into was already taken by a panel van conversion (shorter than me). Well we squeezed into a spot along side the panel van (Autotrail, I think) and was further dismayed to note that blocking the best view was what looked like a home converted builders truck with a box on the back, eyesore. We went for the harbour cruise we were planning on and when we came back the Autotrail couple had their chairs and table out grrr, should have said something but didn't. We then drove off for three days and on our return, the “a” class was still there, talk about abuse. I should be surprised, next time we go, if there is not some anti MH restriction. I was told that they all found the spot on “WEBSITE BLOCKED BY ADMIN” web site. No room for us this time. Fortunately we then found a spot nearby, not so good but OK for a night stop and should not upset anyone. We were told by the Autotrail occupants that “WEBSITE BLOCKED BY ADMIN” even described the attractions of the spot encouraging it’s use.

Even to me this sounds as though I am just being selfish
You managed to hit the nail on the head in the end. (y)

The issue with poi's, face ache and other social media is that once you post a place to stay using any type of forum your not just telling one person, your telling several, those several distribute the information to several others and then the same happens again, then one day you rock up at the place only you knew and there's vans everywhere, then you complain, but actually its simply your own fault (I'm not aiming this at the o.p. just talking generally)

Seems to me the reason you want a spot with no other vans is because you want solitude so when you find it, keep it to yourself. I often park up at a place in Lincolnshire with lovely sea views and have never shared it with another van, it has a hard standing and you can step stright onto the sandy beach from the van.

If I'm early, I leave all the lights off and don't deploy the levelling system, I park as far from sight as possible and grab a bin bag and clear up the rubbish that others have left, once its getting late I move to the edge of the beach, level the van and put out a chair and relax with headphones, I move back out of the way before the local dog walkers pitch up.

There's a roadways material storage area near where I live which stands empty 95% of the time, some point during covid a van and caravan turned up, obviously full timing, a while later the site was on the net as a wild camping spot, then one day there were 4 units parked there, now has a barrier and a fence.

When Phil started this website I'm pretty sure the poi's where a great idea, but right now in the UK at least they are simply an Achilles heel imho.

You have pretty much taken the words right out of my mouth ...

Call me selfish BUT there are SOME spots I will only ever share with trusted friends ...

Those that aren't already plastered on every forum and Facebook page etc .

The Internet ....Great for sharing info .
The Internet ...Awful for sharing info .

Yes backed myself into a tight spot havn't I but I can't help feeling aggrieved that the nice spot has been spoiled. and will probably be ruiined by height barriers etc because of over use and use by careless and thoughtless parkers; that is what I am complaining about.

The irony of Harry's post is almost laughable! Favourite spot is overused, so I'll squeeze in too? If the height barriers go up it seems to be everyone else's fault but his? Harry, you ARE part of the problem!

And I keep seeing posts blaming new people to motorhome use. It seems to be all their fault. Blame the Covid brigade. But this was happening long before the masses discovered motorhomes. Search for the subject on this and other sites and you will see that overuse has been a problem for years. Popular places have always been overused and squeezing just one more van on the space is something that has been going on for years.
