New car

Being naive we went for the paint and alloys crap, which we'd never seen this effin car.
I did too @£500 . I've had 2 alloy repairs and 2 smart paint repairs in the first year. With a 22" tyre £450 a corner and our crap roads I for the first time ever bought an upselling product.

I wish I still had my old MK4 diesel Golf. I had it for yonks. As a run around mainly from the days where we had three cars. It was indestructible. (well until it wasnt). Got bashed to feck down farm tracks, hedges, gates, had done zillions of miles and never let me down. When you gave it the beans and overtook someone it did a kind of "F*ck you!" Belch and left the car behind in a cloud of black diesely smoke. Probably killed few more polar bears in the process though. The electrics went in the end and nobody could be arsed to fix it so that was that. The 1.9TDI engine though I suspect is still going on its own somewhere refusing to die.

A proper well ard car that was. :D Give me another!!!

That was a superb engine and was fitted to early skoda cars before the 2 litre cr-p.

I had a couple of Audi A4s with the 1.9 Tdi engine, totally bullet proof but every now and then you had to turn the ign on and off again to kill the check engine light, sold the first one to a Rozzer and he brought it back, he was fine once I told him what to do.

I think I'm turning into Trev. I just want old school and after the day from hell after I was rudely dragged out of retirement I can honestly say hand on heart FCUK TECHNOLOGY!!!

Personally if I was to purchase a new vehicle it would be an EV a Volvo one.
I think the building quality of a Subaru wouldn’t meet Benz drivers standards🤷‍♂️.
You'll have to be quick they are not making them anymore, ditto a few other makes, all going for PHEVs now.

Cale, I’ve been reading the spec on the Kia EV, to be for sale in the summer, it is the new model Kia R-Soul. Look it up, you’ll be impressed 👍

Done a few miles in my mates XC40 Volvo dual motor EV. Very impressed with performance, comfort level and gizmos.

I had an ICE xc40 courtesy car a while back, it was great, I liked the heads-up display on the windscreen, as first for me. Lovely car.

I paid cash for the alloys to drop the payments by 5p a month   put the paint on the finance, we hate the friggin thing and fear there will be zero residuals left even at three years the car is so bad, servicing costs are about £2k over 4 years.
Surely the alloys will be worth a bit, with the insurance they'll still be prestine.

a 22" tyre? what is the point of that? must be a dreadful ride and with potholes wheels will be dented to buggery constantly. mad!

One year on, no dents just kerbing is the problem with 315/30/-22". Ride is fine with full air suspension. But I have dodged the potholes, so far.

For personal reasons I won’t go into figures, but yesterday I walked out of the showroom with a brand new car for almost the same price as the pre registered car below. My car is identical in every way to the one below except it’s in the showroom and is unregistered. So how did all happen well I don’t know, maybe someone on here can explain what happened.

I was negotiating for the car below, my main goal was to get three years free servicing that they were offering on other cars but not on the one I wanted. I had decided against the forester for various reasons.
Getting it in and out of my garage would have been difficult.
The interior was dated, hence the new model just out.
I wanted leather and a sunroof, but the model I had been considering meant £590 road tax. But as I said it was too large for my needs.
I don’t need such a large car with more gizmos than the space shuttle.
The car I chose had everything and more I wanted.

So anyway after a bit of haggling the deal was done, I got my three years servicing, mats, and a full tank. We agreed on a trade in figure. I was feeling pretty good with myself, quite happy with the deal I had done. Then comes the bombshell.

He starts playing with his keyboard looking at his screen then announces I think I can get you a better deal. Not something I expect to hear from a salesman. I will have to get Subaru to ok this, I will call her now. So he leaves me for about five minutes and comes back with this better deal.

Ok Bill how about this you pay an additional £110 and you can have the identical brand new unregistered car right behind you. I will register it March 1 on a 75 plate. I was gobsmacked, I of course agreed. Obviously this has cost his company nothing, I can only assume that Subaru are covering this. Or possibly one of you can explain why this happened. Anyway come next month I will be driving a brand new Subaru Crosstrek not the one below, which is identical to the one I will be driving.
I took some photos of both cars whilst there.
And I got my napa leather, and a sunroof after all :)
