New car

I went from a C estate to a Forrester. Had always liked the look of them. Great car. I left the lights on once and flattened the battery. The breakdown chap said that was the only reason he ever got called out to Subarus, as so reliable.
BUT I could just not get comfortable in the driving seat. Any trip over 1.5 hours left me with leg and back pain.
So back to a C estate. Current car is a 61 plate and just back from 10 weeks touring Morocco in it.

I agree the vehicle tax rules have no rhyme, reason, or fairness - but when did that ever come into the equation?!

My maths is rubbish, but I think that £400 or so annual tax equates to about 1% of the vehicle (list) purchase price.

Maybe just be glad you're all lucky enough to have the spare funds to fork out for the continuation of your chosen leisure pursuits? 🤷‍♀️😜

Did someone say they wanted a MX5, wonder if the lad down the road might sell you this one.

I had a Forester, a lovely car, built properly in Japan. Taking it to bits revealed very impressibe build quality. I bought it as a crashed/repair jobby and all it needed was new front panel, bumper, rad grille, wing and bonnet. The only reason it was written off was the quote from a Subaru garage would be more than the car was worth, but I could do all the repairs on my drive with a socket set and Thor The Mighty Hammer. I got it sprayed professionally of course and sold it at a good profit - the V5 was not affected.
The 4WD is possibly unique. I don't know if that still applies now but when I got it, it was the only alleged 4x4 that would move provided at least one wheel had any grip. If any wheel slipped, power to that wheel would be cut off and all the power went to the wheel with grip. There was a youtube showing some roller 'conveyor belts' angled upwards on a ramp for the car to drive up. They could either allow or prevent any of the rollers from rolling. i/.e any roller could be gripped, or left to run free. The only 4x4 available at that time that could get up the ramp was the Subaru.
One day where I lived it had snowed and the roads on our estate had compacted, frozen snow so I got in the car to test it. From stationary I floored the accelerator and it shot off up the road more or less just as it would on a dry road. There was a bit of juddering of course like ABS does if you skid as it tried to decide which wheel had the best grip. I was gobsmacked. And the way it raced round the twisty country lanes round here was quite thrilling.
I converted it to run on LPG which helped the mpg. I shouldn't have sold it - but I was always keen on making a decent profit on cars so off it went. . . . .

Er.... nope... 🤷‍♀️🤣🤣

Now if you were talking about an old, classic merc - maybe a convertible (with no microchips anywhere near it!) - you could maybe "na na, na na, na" me.
I'd maybe feel a momentary tinge of envy, but the tinge would last .... ooooo.... let me think... 🤔 .... as long as the blink of an eye! 😜🤣😎
About a year ago I bought a 1983 Merc. A wonderful car, but it has this modern electronic ignition. That's the only thing on it that Charles Faraday wouldn't understand. However as that was made by Bosch and has worked for 199,300 miles I don't think it will pack up. Windey up windows, and I have to turn on the headlights by rotating a switch. oooh, let me think a moment. . .. . ooh yes, it has gone dark . . . . . .but as I have passed my driving test, I know that if it is dark I have to turn on the headlights . . excuse me while I rotate this switch on the dashboard .. . ah yes, I can do that, I'm clever, me.

While doing more research on the Kia R-Soul, I came across this other Kia model, I wonder why they give their models weird names, Cale?
