New car

I used to love the old Cortinas (mk1, 11 and 111), my Dad swore by them and he never had a problem with them and I thought the gearboxes where like silk back then when I learned to drive in the Mk 11 and borrowed that and the MK111 regularly.

In fact after those he had a Mk 1V, a Granada or 2, a Sierra and his last couple of cars were Focus's so I don't see why so many people have a problem with Fords?
Rob, you could go out and buy an S class Merc, and read reports why not to buy one.
You tend to find those who are happy with their cars never go online and tell everyone how happy they are, but anyone with an issue is online slagging the car maker off.
But the car industry does keep statistics on reliability, and Ford are not anywhere near the top. But that does not mean they are junk, just not as good as say Lexus or Toyota who come first for reliability. But if you want to find reports on YouTube on Toyota and Lexus you will no doubt find plenty of detractors. Bottom line if you stick by a make that has served you well there’s nout wrong with that, I more or less had 20 years of driving Mercs and apart from rust on my first Merc (they did not galvanise c class until 2003) I had trouble free driving.

We had a 69 beetle for nearly 20 years.
It only need 1 engine (it blew up on motorway) and changed it on the side road.a couple of headlights (they fell out bumpstarting it off a ferry in Ireland)
Oh and there was numerous body panels that rotted through....
But many good times were spent it that car.
I do get nostalgic over old stuff,

I had this on the road for one mth after a full strip and rebuild including respray, then a ar-eho-l in a tranny playing with his mobile rad into the back of it reducing it to a 2 seater.
