Perhaps see the Black Belt Barrister's take on this. He seems of the opinion that nobody of sane mind could have construed what she wrote as 'incitement to violence'. The post concerned included "for all I care", which makes a huge difference since she did not directly call for those hotels to be burned down. She lost her son to a medical blunder and so keenly felt the angst of the parents who lost their children to the Southport incident, and hence was reasonably outraged on hearing (incorrectly) that the murderer was an asylum seeker. It also seems to me that she was badly advised and misled since it appears she was told she would/could be detained on remand, possibly for months, until her case could be heard unless she pleaded guilty; which she did both to expedite her case and also to avoid losing a sentence discount in a system that seems designed to coerce the innocent to plead guilty by penalising those who exercise their right to defend themselves against accusations brought against them... and probably thought that any sentence given for a single tweet would be considerably less than the remand period she faced and so, pragmatically, took the path expected to lead to the lesser period of detention. Then, of course, you need to consider that, as the spouse of a Conservative councillor, she represents the political opposition to those who currently direct the courts...Those "hurty words" were an incitement to violence! She was calling for the burning down of hotels that housed asylum seekers. You really think that is OK? Given that others had done the same and had actually caused destruction and injury? She is local to us and as a CONservative councillor, should have known better. Yes this old guy was treated badly and it cost him his life, but there can be no excuse for stirring up racial hatred and violence!
And really? "hurty words"? Jeez...
