Typical Mail misleading headline though. He was not "Wielding a knife". I think they found a Stanley knife on him after the arrest.

None of us have all the facts but it was his own colleagues at the scene I believe that reported him. At the time of the arrest it was an alleged assault and no mention of a knife I believe. So for what seems to be an arrest just based on an alleged assault it does seem to me to be excessive and the officer clearly loses control. Whether he should have been sacked though is another matter. I could understand them going in hard like that if they knew he was actually "Wielding a knife" but they didn't I don't think.

Just watched the police body cam footage that Dorset police released. It's edited and has audio redacted. Why would they do that if they were not trying to skew the footage one way or another. Why not show the whole encounter.

Very telling that his colleagues complained about his behaviour .
Usual DM misleading article . Knife carrying ? Separate matter but the pc wasn't aware of it at the time .

But , as we both said , the complaints from colleagues is very telling .
The policeman who was jailed for multiple sexual offences was well known among his colleagues for his cruel behaviour . Yet , as far as I know , was not reported by colleagues .

A certain News Channel and a certain Political Party are banned on here. It was an interview by the aforementioned Politician with the Police Officer himself. As said earlier, the video clip was given by Dorset Police as they thought it would exonerate their decision to sack the Officer. It has done the reverse actually. This Officer, with 9 or 10 years in the job, had 2 commendations for bravery, including rescuing a woman from floodwater. One of the YT comments (a local I presume) says that the female Chief Constable is very touchy, feely and woke and held in low regard generally. I don't know if that is true but it was mentioned.

I do see articles online though and have a quick look if it grabs my attention, some I believe, some I take with a pinch of salt. But yes, the Mail is worse than most.

In this case though they must have had a good reason to arrest him though, they don't usually go in that hard without having received considerable intelligence?

Two of us used to go over there with work in the 90s. I think 1993 was the first time I went to Belfast. It was a bit daunting getting off the ferry and seeing all the armoured vehicles, machine guns and the like. I did see a building get stormed and a flash bang grenade get used. It was bizarre. I was wondering round just shopping and the street seemed to clear. People scurried off like they knew something was about to happen. I just stood there bewildered not giving any sh*ts and eating my sandwich when a convoy of armoured vehicles came screaming down the road and stormed this building. Two minutes later out they came, bundled some "suspects" into the vehicles and stormed off again.

We loved Belfast though and always had a good time there.

I was actually driving artics from West Midlands to N Ireland and Eire twice a week in the 70’s/80’s when there was a lot of troubles ,I would ensure I was back on Larne docks to sleep but on only 2 occasions I couldn’t get back, both times I was put up by total strangers from the delivery site, the charity of strangers was so surprising and welcome, the only trepidation I felt was one family were going out for the night and left me, a total stranger alone in their house with clear instructions NOT to open the door to anyone and if anything happened don’t hesitate to use the revolver they gave me , sounds unbelievable but I promise it’s absolutely true, to this day I regard the Irish North or South as the most hospitable people on Earth.

Turns out he had threatened to stab someone in a pub, then fled the scene driving away, that's when the police stopped him.
Better still, after this story was in the paper some of his victims could identify him, and he was arrested and jailed as a peado rapist.

Perhaps but it doesn't get that reputation for being the least trusted in Europe without the latter really does it?

Sensationalism and Tabloid culture, Scandals (Phone hacking for example and IPSO having really no teeth)

Bias and impartiality (off the scale in recent years)

Digital disruption, misinformation and political polarisation.

We do have some decent media / press of course but they are underfunded, under read and not backed by billionaire media moguls with their own agenda.

Those "hurty words" were an incitement to violence! She was calling for the burning down of hotels that housed asylum seekers. You really think that is OK? Given that others had done the same and had actually caused destruction and injury? She is local to us and as a CONservative councillor, should have known better. Yes this old guy was treated badly and it cost him his life, but there can be no excuse for stirring up racial hatred and violence!

And really? "hurty words"? Jeez...

Those 2 Officers have been cleared of any offence.

At the same time, Dorset Police have sacked a long serving Officer for "not showing respect and courtesy" while arresting a teenager armed with a knife while being surrounded by a gang of other teenagers. This was despite an independent witness seeing what was happening and dialling 999 to inform the Police that one of their Officers was in urgent need of assistance.

I could show you the actual footage on YT but Admin would take it down due to its source. But it is out there if you look for it.

So the officer didn't know he had a knife and in truth, went in too hard for the situation. They only found the knife after he was arrested.

I have bought a Daily Express for 50 years. At first it was only the Thursday edition and that was for the Overseas Job vacancies. I also went to my local Library for the other publications with Contract jobs in them. When I retired from working overseas I bought the Saturday edition, mostly for all the puzzles, crosswords etc. and my Wife got the TV Magazine that came free with it. Two weeks ago I stopped buying the DE because the price had risen again and is now £2.60. That is because ALL newspapers are no longer bought by the masses and their profits are down but they still have fixed overheads. Some of it is no doubt down to the tripe written in them, especially the really biased ones. All you can trust is the date printed on it and the answers to the previous days crossword.

It is exactly the same with all the Main Stream TV Media, it is no longer watchable. I would have cancelled the TV Licence years ago but the Wife says no (and she pays for it now).
