CAMPERBANNED NC500’s fresh ban NEWS

How many people in cars have either a picnic, a Mc Donald’s or fish and chips whilst sitting in their cars in a car park, then simply just throw their litter out of the window ? I am sure we have all witnessed it happen many times, but you never hear of them shutting the car park to cars, and where do the car drivers pee if there are no toilet facilities.
It just seems that the uk is hell bent on blaming people in campers and motorhomes, of which the majority have on board facilities

Yes to the rubbish but no hedge wizzers here as such, if you did that here about half the other cars will be whoopping and whistling out windows plus talking pictures on mobiles to be dowmloaded on u tube. 😂

Give it 18-24 months, when M/home visits drop like a stone in response to the Councils' Agendas and watch for the launch of another 'Visit Scotland' Tourism Initiative and Mrs McTavish bemoaning the lack of visitors to her remote village Traditional Tea Shoppe. Then we can respond with a collective 'Foxtrot Oscar, we'll go where we are appreciated, where the weather is warmer, and where the locals are friendlier. Meanwhile, enjoy your economic privations ...'

Miserable sods, the lot of them

Rather than ban everyone in camper’s because of a few leaving rubbish behind and some emptying their toilet waste,
They could always do as most of Europe does, and provide a bin for the rubbish and also somewhere to empty the toilet cassette.

When did “the most sensible solution” ever feature in most local (or regional) UK council operations?! 😉 🤷‍♀️

if they can fine a dog owner up to £2000 for not picking up dog poo then someone dumping a cassette or crapping in the bushes should be fined the same , we we’re on the beach at punta umbria last week and watched people crossing the road into the dunes sometimes with a toilet roll in hand they were from campervans and cars

Seems logical Trev.
But I hate the thought of banning folk en masse.
I reckon most who use vans like this are responsible, but sadly I have twice witnessed urinating in carparks. I think New Zealand has banned campers from WC. But I hate the idea of doing this, it so unjust.
It's also the people in cars that do most of the peeing in lay byes and sh..ting in the woods.
I remember years and years ago before vans got popular going into bits of woodland and toilet paper everywhere. Why are there no complaints about that?

Absolutely correct.
Pretty sure Mrs McTavish has not been consulted though .
Councils just don't seem able to work out a sensible solution for us .
Where public toilets are/were it wouldn't be expensive to provide black waste facility. Licensed campsites should be obliged to provide facilities, obviously for a reasonable price
Some hotspots in Europe only allow off season access .
There are many more ways , I'm sure , to deal with us positively

I don't really see the problem with needing a pee in the night, one of those Tupper ware type cereal containers works quite well😀, I got one when daughter booked us into an air BnB with downstairs toilet and narrow winding staircase. Disposal onto grass or shrubbery is little different to a cow or deer having a pee, and it's fertiliser.

We got a long wheelbase vivaro cos it gave more room to carry a portaloo and have the space to use it with the bed in use. I use the cereal pot if the loo ain't been used cos emptying is less of a chore. Mostly in a site toilet if available. Whilst we use the showers and dish washing facilities.

We also carry a spade , don't empty the toilet very often ,but it's there if needed.
Agree with all that but unfortunately in some popular spots people dump their pee in the same place which does then get smelly and can kill the grass when there's too much o it and not enough rain.
Fine out in the sticks though

Only a couple of weeks ago Moray Council, literally along the north east coast, 20 miles from the start of the NC500 announced its intention to look into reopening and developing 10 locations for motorhomes:

Moray Council identifies 10 possible locations for motorhomes to stay overnight.

https://www.northern-scot.co.uk/new...-in-moray-for-motorhome-overnight-sta-373180/

The Council in Moray see the benefits of those of us who like tripping around Scotland on the NE250 not always in campsites. We have seen places we used to park up on a frequent basis in Moray close down and then open back up again. Some now paid like Cullen who has a barrier with full MH facilities, and others such as the car park in Aberlour which is on the Moray Council list again to be looked at reopening. These towns businesses have suffered, the local attractions have suffered, as have the whisky distilleries and associated businesses. All of which affects employment.

The reliance on tourism in this part of the country, and in the Highlands and other parts of rural Scotland is massive. You cannot just nip up or down the road in any of these rural locations regardless of what you own, a motorhomes, campervan, van, car or bike. Everyone is going to have to stop at some point. Making those stop off points more user friendly and welcoming, makes them attractive. Knowing you are going to be welcome is what is key to most people regardless of the mode of transport.

We have witnessed lots in our nearly 30 years of tripping around and living in northern Scotland with our vans. But sadly now we do not feel that welcoming pull to make less than an hours trip to visit the NC500. We prefer to visit places we are welcome.

On many trips to Europe we have also seen similar behaviour at Aires with full septic tanks/sewers block and people just continue to add more. Cassettes dumped in toilets. Witnessing people walking out of MH etc to urinate in the bushes/trees Aires, Campsites, Car Parks and along the sides of roads, despite toilets onsite. This is absolutely normal for many of our European neighbours, regardless of what people think.

So what you're suggesting Trev is punish all small van owners for the bad behaviour of a few?

Like some councils try to do to all motorhomers because some empty their cassettes into ditches and streams.
How was that suggested? Having a toilet facility covers a massive range of options and waste water collection could be a jerrycan under the sink?

A lot of the bad publicity includes reports of vans with loos dumping waste where they ought not.

Following your logic Trev, we need to ban those from overnight stays where there are no proper dumping facilities.
No simple is cameras at c parks or stops, then big fine should stop this nomater what kind of van.

I always need to empty mine at home after a trip, and never had a problem emptying it in the toilet at home

It was in the news last year about a person who witnessed a motorhome dumping toilet waste on the NC500 and reported this to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) who investigated. SEPA also issued a telephone number for people to use to report any concerns over pollution incidents:

NC500: Investigation after motorhome 'seen dumping toilet waste'
8th April 2024

https://www.thenational.scot/news/24238597.nc500-investigation-motorhome-seen-dumping-toilet-waste/

SEPA responded:
“We would like to thank the member of the public who reported this incident and encourage anyone with concerns about a potential pollution incident to contact Sepa as soon as possible through our 24/7 Pollution Hotline.

“You can report using our online form or by calling 0800 80 70 60.”
