I'm gonna need the rack thing explaining. Why is it ok on a rack, but not in garage? How does that change use of vehicle or MOT class?
Is having a canoe ok on a roof rack, but not in the van? Apart from it being in the way.
Because the law says so, do you require it in other forms ir brail LOL.Why can you carry it on the tail?
Brail will do nicely, thank you.Because the law says so, do you require it in other forms ir brail LOL.
I dont make it up you know, higher etchilons do.
All seems daft to me mind you.
AS far as i know it already has been put on other foums from the dvla, but Rob is going to confirm it.Brail will do nicely, thank you.
Will be pleased to see evidence of this law in any form you like. But it will need to be proper evidence!
None of that is evidence.AS far as i know it already has been put on other foums from the dvla, but Rob is going to confirm it.
The bad bit would be if away from home and told to take the bike out or face the van being compunded or a fine.
Then having to get someone to come trailer the bike home, all in my mind silly, but the law is the law good or bad, unless we can change it.
A dvla post was put up on a site, how much more do you require, rob is going to get it confirmed.None of that is evidence.
Not even in brail!
I just googled "living van" and got nothing so where does the phrase come from?
Did you re register yours as a Motor Caravan?
Will have to see if I can find the thread but this is nonsense Rob. I wouldn't give it a second thought.
I'm guessing the relatively recent body type of "van with windows" classification for MH's which don't look like a MH don't have this issue being discussed, obviously as long as correct MOT is done. I don't know for sure obviously, but I'll put a pint on it.Yes I did have it re-registered as a Motor Caravan - purely because I could get cheaper insurance than if it was still registered as a Light Goods vehicle or whatever it was.
If I was to fit out another it would be insured as a day van with windows, which I believe some people do and have a mattress, a bog and a camping stove in it.
I'm not so much worried Barry as annoyed at the DVSA's ambiguity and I'm pretty sure that it is nonsense and wouldn't stand up in court. The interpretations of the law by a member of staff at the DVSA doesn't mean that they are right and the fact that the CCC and M&CC legal teams say it wouldn't stand up in court seem to confirm this.
But at the same time, we shouldn't be advising people as a forum that it is illegal to carry a motorcycle in a motorhome when the full facts aren't actually available. (Yes, I'm looking in your direction Mr Skoda!).
There was this from four years ago sparked off from our sister site and before that from Facebook!
Carry a scooter or M/bike in your garage?
There is a thread on this subject on our sister forum Motorhome Builder Do you carry a scooter or motorbike in your garage? | Motorhome Builder A member has been asking DVSA for clarification, following reports of MH owners being told by DVSA that they are not allowed to do so if registered as...wildcamping.co.uk
Then there was your thread from two years ago Rob.
Carrying a motorcycle in your MH garage
During a recent thread a discussion started regarding the legality of carrying a motorcycle inside your vehicle. As everything seemed a bit vague, I thought I would email the DVSA to get some clarification. The reply was as follows; Thank you for your email enquiry dated 26 March 2021...wildcamping.co.uk
As far as I can tell nobody has been prosecuted for this in all that time. It's all third hand social media nonsense I reckon.
That seems straght forward Rob, as you and other say the dvla may or may not be correct in law or a court case, if one realy excists, this i read on line a few years back.
But as you pointed out it was a compition bike in a van which is differant.
WE shall rest easy when you get a email and sort this out once and for all.
I have never heard of anyone here being snaffeled for the bike thing, but i know from watching tv that the English road teams come down hard on folks.
Any way if its only a mob scooter do you think we could go this root LOL.View attachment 122692
