Whole of London to be hit by new Ulez expansion ordered by Sadiq Khan

As I've posted before, go back 20 years and after a day in central London I would change clothes straight away after getting home due to the stench of traffic, go there now and it's much better.

My memory for details ain't great these days but I seem to recall a demand for money at the time as well.

I wasn't a bad boxer in my day and I did throw one punch. I don't think it even landed in the right postcode!
I was always the diplomat me normally. If there was ever any bother on a night out I would be the one diffusing it. I once got into bother on a night out in Croydon though separating a really vicious scrap between two girls. I got booed by all the Larey blokes cheering. 😬

Thats slave labour Trev.
Some of the farm workers get a £1 an hr working a 10 hr shift, if you complain you are told to feck off, a few years back I knew a builder helper who worked all week for £50, his boss said you are on the dole and thats your lot, many do the double over here.

Like the rest of UK there are plenty of farms who will welcome them with open arms, there are big problems in agriculture with labour shortages.

Maybe but I dont know anyone around here that would do that work for a quid an hour, Twenty quid an hour is some places I bet you would struggle.

None of the M25 is included in the zone even where the zone extends beyond the M25.

If you zoom in the map does show that along with the few "free" roads you can drive into the zone up to usually the first roundabout.

Glad we have a Euro 6 vehicle! But prefer to go into London by train nowadays. We used to stay in Barking and park there but that is in the zone too. Mind you, last time we went to London ( hospital) we returned with covid! Unfortunately can't avoid going fairly often as the specialist hospital is there.:(

Only time I've driven inside m25 in last 20 years has been to pick up or drop off at Heathrow, looks like I won't be doing that again

I thought Heathrow was always in the ULEZ zone?

I hired a van then used to drive right through the centre of London and back when taking our son down to U.C.L. each year and back again at the end in the 90`s.

The easiest way was straight through, over the Vauxhall Bridge, past The Oval through Camberwell and Peckham ( hiya Del Boy ) and down to Lewisham where his Halls of Residense was and then the house shares after the first year.

Seriously would not like to do it now o_O

Nah, you didn’t want to go that way, shoulda taken the 2nd on the left after the third pub on the right, straight over next 3 mini roundabouts, 4th on the right after the ULEZ sign, would ave been there in a jiffy.

An opposite view:

We loved it when we looked after a fellow members flat in Sydenham for 3 months. Bought two books SECRET LONDON and HIDDEN LONDON. Our cockney friend reckoned we saw more of London than he did in the 30 years he lived there.
We also found the people friendly.
This was 5 years ago.

I worked in London on a job for 6 weeks in1988 and I hated it.

Saw the Pink Floyd and Bowie in Hyde Park in the early 70's. Decided to stay on and slept in the park for 6 weeks. I had no money so nicked milk off doorsteps and begged for enough money to buy biscuits, that kept me going, until I couldn't stand my own smell and hitched home to a bollocking from parents and school.
Great fun.

Guess London can be a love hate kinda place?
A wee flashback for you Ral, I ventured Into a city last nicht with the kids and Mary doll

Bugger 🤬 that`s where i wrong then however in my defence back then the ULEZ hadn`t been invented so i missed that turning 🤪

I am the son of a long line of cockneys on my mothers side but was born about 25 miles out near Weybridge in Surrey. 168 to 71 was absolute heaven although you had to be careful, look at someone the wrong way in a pub and you were in for a beating. Don’t know if it was because I was a hippy or not though lol. You certainly had to be careful back then when any local football team was playing. Chelsea Shed was written all over in real blood.

Saw some great bands there though and a lot for free or not much. Doing the West End clubs wasn’t my cup of tea but my sister and her bloke were there every weekend in top clubs. Did help he was a bit of a gangster so could afford it I guess lol
