Trip to France

That’s what I like about France. The spontaneity of it all and meeting all sorts of folk. There used to be a fabulous (but really scruffy) aire at a place called Les Arcs which was in the grounds of a “winery”. Always a game of pétanque going on fuelled by wine purchased from a petrol pump device in 5 litre polythene containers. We still have French friends made over a game of boules!
Ringing a vague bell there , where was that ?

We went, one parking place near enough but occupied, gendarme told me I could park in a camping car place not too far away but too far for me and as ever no joined up thinking as had cobbles so I couldn't use the scooter so we move on, it saddens us that they make pedestrian areas that dont suit the more disabled people.
There is a camping car park in the Cathedral car park free for motorhomes used it last year the wife made it up to the cathedral ok no problem and the scooter as small wheels

Awful signal last night.

Re my scooter, it is a small fold up one as it has to fit through the hab door, the wheels are about 4 inch diameter and solid plastic, due to it being a fold up type it wobbles on any uneven surface which is bad for the folding parts, so I can't use it on cobbles and I also think the hill exeeded the advised gradient.

The church bell in Andermatt goes off at 6am, presumably it’s the local alarm clock, and strikes 163 - before I lost count.

What size does it need to be? Sue’s Vippi breaks down into 4 parts if needed and can be stored separately. That also is small wheels and why we also got her the Kymco.

Would Liz get on a two wheeled scooter Kev? Your van probably wont take a rack but a hydro trail or a little bike trailer would transform your trips I expect. Even if you just used it for short excursions.

Not sure I'm up to buggering about with something like that nowadays Simon, bending leaves me in more pain than lifting, with mine 27kg, I have my makeshift 5 :1 hoist which Liz works, I just have to pull it away from the van to avoid scratching either but she is struggling with that, as she isn't used to doing stuff like that and as ever she doesn't take instruction well 🤣🤣

We did look at that too, but the costs and messing about etc didnt appeal, I got the scooter initially because I could lift it in on my own, then I made the wooden ramps but deteriorating stuff will go on until I'm no longer able to move at all much.

I regret not seeing the church and other stuff but we are still seeing alternative things as we take the route less traveled, what irks me is Lizs insistence that she wont go look on her own.

I must admit. I wouldnt want to trail a scooter if at all possible as the racks are so much easier. There is a fair chunk of outlay I guess as well for both. Uncle Tim swears by the hydro trail but they look a bit of a faff to me.

Thats a shame regarding Liz though. Michelle often goes off and does stuff on her own or looks round towns and cathedrals. She does a lot of walking on her tod also. When its possible Ill go off with the Kayak. Of course if you did get a bike you can park right outside a lot of these places.

I let her wander off if we do a garden etc, we're going to monets garden soon and I'll have a snooze in the van maybe.

If you go to Monet's garden you can overnight on the car park, if you do decide to visit the garden, make a very early start to get to the front of the ticket queue and head straight for the water garden before the gardens on the house side. Why well the tour coaches arrive very early as well and its a nightmare once the Japanese arrive.
