Tips for securing hose pipe in filler

The old van seemed to have some kind of nick in the pipe and I could always wedge the hosepipe in and it wouldnt fly out mid flow. This new one is a right PIA. Of course what happens is no matter where you are stood it will fly out and soak you. Its like a magnet. The flaying hose will seek you out even if you stand two fields away. I think there are all sorts of things you can buy but I'm looking for inventive simple solutions. My idea at the moment is a champagne cork (Cava will do I think). Carry it in your pocket and just wedge it in the hole with the hose pipe. Not tried it yet, still trying to get dry after the latest fill.

Any other ideas?
Think you need to get a life Barry.

There you go! I might patent this. :D

Its not perfect as there seems to be more blow back stream with the water but then it is high pressure here. I have considered attaching the cork to a string Australian hat style and sticking it to the side of the van above the filler but I fear in strong winds this might annoy anyone sat in the train window.

That's exactly the way I secure the hose. Works flawlessly and I have a plentiful supply of replacements.

I use a standard wine bottle cork and cut one end to a wedge shape. Job done!

See! A fellow genius who thinks outside the box!!

I bunged up the overflow on the last van to stop it leaking all the water out when we drove about with a whittled down cork from France. It was still there ten years later when I sold the van. :D

No need to waste money on champagne.

Get a multi tool.

So, you buy a bottle of Cava at £80 so you can hold a hose in? Twisted logic there Barry!:unsure::unsure::oops::rolleyes::unsure::unsure:

£80!!! Im sure its not that much. Ill have to ask the shopper but I bet its from Tescos and about six quid. I Think they make better tools for fixing stuff than your common wine cork (Well not so common these days anyway) because they are made to cope with high pressure and are a bit fatter so will hold the hose in better and keep mices out of that electrical hole under the van.

Another useful tip I should probably have shared is the one from when the Thetford toilet blade disintegrated. Corks are no good here but super size coffee cups which are easily blagged for free from campsite bars fit and work perfectly. You need to remember to remove it though when you take the cassette out.

The best hack was Christmas day 2012 in the old Kontiki. The Carver hot water tank literally blew up under the seat Michelle was sitting on. Water everywhere. I can't remember the details now but the only way to sort it was with rubber tape and bic biro tops to bypass the system so we at least had cold running water. :D
