Some folks really don't help us do they ....

I agree, but fact is many dont see any harm in it, fact is as you say maybe staying a few days winds folk up, for me id have picked a much better qt place to stay with a bern, esp in maybe a hot day, a forest or some shade would be my pick.
One thing here is no one would have a word unlike English folk who would being finger wagers LOL.
I agree Trev, I checked their reg online. They only got the van in March. They simply don’t realise what they have done. But I doubt if they would listen to advice, I have tried twice and got nowhere. I doubt if I would approach anyone again. The problem is there are people out there who detest us, blame us for everything that’s wrong, and their ignorance only plays into the hands of those who wish us ill. I was a bit hard on them, but it simply angers me when I see things like this.

This looks like a young couple trying to get away in their pallets and fairy bottles van (description used from a previous thread) and I find this less harming than the Piltlochry photo.

Yes I agree, the Pitlochry photo was dreadful.
But in relation to that carpark which you and I have stayed in, that was very much a one off, but in the past three years this type of thing is happening all over, all of the time.
But If I had taken a photo of our summers night in Elie I reckon that was even worse Cal.
Hence why we left.
The Pitlochry photo shows to many vans in a carpark at night.
Elie would have shown the same but with awnings, tables and chairs, Kids running about unsupervised.
May as well get used to it, wee don't go there in summer now, only winter.

Same here ....

After the response I got from others on the original Facebook page
AND from folks on here ...

I'll not bother again ...
On either platform .

Just to point something out .....
The heading of the photo says "Balloch. Loch Lomand For the Day". So the people there are having a day out and sounds to me like not even staying overnight.

Easy to make assumptions. But also unwise to as often they are incorrect.
I bet there are at least as many folk parked there wishing they had a nice bit of extra shade as there are people annoyed. I don't know that area or what facilities there are, but is it much difference to going on a beach and putting up a shelter and a windbreak for a day out? maybe there are not other options around?

Granted they might be just there for the day ...
BUT we as a forum constantly re iterate the tread lightly ,don't give folks reason to complain about us setting up camp etc ...
Etc etc ....

The picture would give many folks an excuse/reason to complain ...
Awning set up ,windbreaks set up etc etc ...
Maybe completely innocent and all packed up and left by the end of the day ...BUT

Might not appear so to already sensitive locals ....

?

Oh come on of course you will, we all love a wee moan, fact is all the talk in the world wont change these folks mind as in there head they are doing nothing wrong and cannot see the impact on us as a choice of hobby.

I saw the same thing here early on in the year, grass patch at side of carpark next to a camper overnight park, Hymer with every thing under the sun out, three other vans there with just a side door open and folks inside reading a book, few spoil it for the many, thats life.

David, I don’t do FB, so I am ignorant of this.
But the fact that they may well not be staying for the night is almost irrelevant.
What matters is how this is perceived by the public, who are also ignorant of their possible intentions. The public will most certainly assume that they are there for the night, maybe even have already spent time there. This looks bad, and we are struggling as it is due to such behaviour.
In my first three years I never witnessed such behaviour, but now it’s becoming common place. I witnessed two awnings out in north Berwick in a small lay bye during covid. Perceptions are important, and this simply looks bad. This photo will no doubt be used on other forums to justify banning us. There’s a group on FB who would just love to post this kind of evidence, as they would see it.

All this angst about a vehicle parked and the family enjoying themselves during a warm Bank Holiday weekend.

It's so symptomatic of the society in which we now seem to live. Little tolerance, and plenty of envy.

If everyone was kinder, more sympathetic and more tolerant this country would be a far more pleasant place in which to live.

The picture at the start of this thread if taken in France, for example, would not have raised an eyebrow.

I think our societal values are all screwed up, and it's high time change was made.

I completely agree, but sadly this is what we have to deal with.
And sadly rightly or wrongly this has led to problems for us and will continue to do so. The attitudes of some towards us is bordering on pathetic, and sadly I don’t reckon things will change anytime soon.

Personally I see nothing wrong in what they are doing, but what I or any of us think is not really relevant, it’s what the media, local councillors and certain locals who complain about such things that matter.

Sadly we have seen many barriers being erected, and no overnight parking signs being erected for less. I know that’s sad, this post is sad, but that’s the reality we are faced with.

I remember having discussions with you when you were new to this forum. You disagreed when I said the tossers with motorhomes were destroying the wildcamping pastime.

I have no view on the published photo and what it means. But I would like to think they are just a young family enjoying the great outdoors for the day, just like when I, the Mrs and our toddlers had a day out in our rusty old Mk1 Cortina.

Having read the responses to my original post ...
It's clear that my views are at a juxtaposition with what I thought was the view points of what this forum (and my own views ) were all about ....

My mistake and apologies ...

Nothing in what they do is wrong or bad, but its what the curtain twitcher perceive and report to councils.
Maybe its there first we day van and see no problem in there doings, we do know what happens and it ends
up bad for us as a way of life when sites and places become restricted or of limits 24/7.

Exactly Trev, it’s what others think that matters.
And that’s a sad incitement on our country.
They are doing nothing wrong, and that applies to most of us.
But sadly what they are doing can and has been used to curtail what we do.
I can visualise that photo in a local rag, with the usual headlines.

Ye I remember you going on about folk (tossers) putting out tables and chairs, and various other things which you reckoned was ruining our pastime. You reckoned we should keep a “low profile”

Seems strange that in your book putting out tables and chairs was destroying our pastime, but putting out an awning, windbreakers, on a public highway will do us no such harm.

As I have clearly stated I don’t reckon in a different country were people are more tolerant and better informed they have done anything wrong, but sadly we don’t live in France.
