Some folks really don't help us do they ....

whenever i stay in a carpark for more than a couple of days , i like to get out my genny and jigsaw ,and knock up a simple shed . i use this to store my camp furniture, barbie , lawnmower etc . this saves valuable floor space in the van for the evening disco

You require a licence to watch, but not to listen LOL, yet another daft thing.
watch live broadcast TV yes. (and I think not watching so no license is a urban myth but a pointless discussion so don't expect a response from me on that topic ;) )
Televisions get used for more things than that you know? Netflix, Youtube, DVDs, etc.

I must admit I thought it was a reference to those fun loving, carefree, we don't spoil it for anyone, members of the Fu****rs Forum 🤣
I took it as the C&CC, because it’s their tag line on posters etc. But thank you for pointing that out. Every day is a school day! 😉😀

I recon that having anything out close to the van constitutes camping so we don't do it. We will carry chairs down to the beach or whatever but not associated with the wagon.

Here is a little question leading on from the first picture and what people would find acceptable or not ....

Picture the scene....
A motorhome is parked in a parking space. There is grass all behind it and the others spaces. They have their camp chairs out and having a nice time. There are cars next to them, and the people from them are chilling out on the grass too.
Why should or does it matter if the chairs physically came out of a motorhome rather than the boot of a car?
If the chairs were moved 20 foot away is that better as they are no longer associated with the Motorhome? is there an unspoken of invisible umbilical cord that has to be cut to make things acceptable?
(This was not hypothetical btw. Just a scene I saw yesterday and it made me think of that picture in the first post and some responses).

To me there were no issues. Maybe as I was sitting in my camp chair around 10 foot away (but nowhere near my Motorhome) getting sunburnt?
I see no problem getting a chair out to enjoy the sunshine and surroundings🤷‍♂️. As long as everything is stored away when not being used and not left outside as if to determine some imaginary boundary.

I finally gathered the courage to have a gentle trip away in my little, elderly van and, after leaving Dunbar, thought I would visit the beach somewhere between North Berwick and Musselburgh. Sadly all the car parks I visited, so I could walk on the beach, had height barriers so I couldn’t park. Ironically, that van and awning, etc in the picture looks like it would have been able to access those car parks. I ended up parking on the main road in front of someone’s house, but felt quite at risk of being told to move on :(

But if in a car you would take chairs out the boot and use them on the grass in front of the van if going out for a picnic?

After doing some shopping in Berwick-on-Tweed last week, drove to Spittal Beach to have some lunch (recommend Morrisons Meal Deal with their 'Hot Salmon' salad. super value, very tasty and very filling).
Just about squeezed into a standard parking space without the rear overhanging

Didn't get any chairs out as there was a bench and tables about 6 foot away on the grass so we sat there with our Bento Boxes and drinks looking out at the sea

But ... if that bench was occupied, what would be so terrible about taking two chairs out and putting them on the grass in front of the motorhome?

To the best of my knowledge I don’t know of any car parks where cars are banned David. I remember well being parked up in Kinross by Loch Leven. There were two motorhomes with their tables and chairs out, leaving the benches in the grass free for the locals to use. Can’t go there now, next time I went no overnight parking signs are up. I contacted the land owner asking why, well apparently some overstayed their welcome, and they did not appreciate the tables and chairs, windbreakers etc. Sadly when we put out our furniture it annoys some, they complain about it, and signs go up, or even worse.

Nothing wrong with cars putting out their furniture, but if we do the same we risk not being able to return. I know it’s ridiculous, but sadly it’s reality. I have put out the table and chairs, but never in a town or village, only in rural locations where I feel it’s not going to upset the local nimbys who have just read their Daily Mails report, that the Scottish tax payers have just funded 30 wardens to police us, and we assault wardens doing their jobs.

Ultimately what I do depends on how it feels to me at the time, if it doesn't feel right I don't do it and I always err on the side of caution. As I said previously in certain circumstances I HAVE got the chairs out and analysing what's going on in my head I think it often boils down to this:
Am I the only one putting out chairs?
I certainly wont be the first to do so but if a couple of CARS have already put out chairs then I'll feel more comfortable following suit. HOWEVER IF there's a couple of motorhomes that have already put out chairs then I'll be more likely to refrain. It really depends on 'the feel'.
Cars can get away with it, I know that's not fair but it's a fact so therefore:
A motorhomer joining in with cars isn't perceived as bad or as bad as one/many motorhomes exclusively putting out chairs etc because when they do it's easy to perceive their actions as 'turning the place into a campsite'.
We stopped in Hunstanton along Cliff parade, Like this guy!

We too felt it would be nice to eat out lunch on the grass BUT it didn't fell right so we stayed in the van with the woosh bang open. After a couple of mins a car drew up just a few yards away, they got a windbreak out, chairs, small table and set up for their lunch. Getting OUR chairs out now felt fine now we were accompanied with a car.
Funnily enough the gypsies had set up camp on the grass nearer the cliffs about 50M away, until the car came we felt like we'd be joining the gypsies IF we got our chairs out but after the car arrived it felt like we were joining them instead, daft but suddenly more acceptable to us and the locals I feel?

There’s no logic or common sense regarding this, and therein lies the problem. Trying to apply logic and common sense can lead to signs and barriers. It’s wrong, but that’s what happens.
