So last night I was watching a bit of youtube and as I was watching the video posted here recently about the large yellow Maniac truck in the snow from Turkey, I spotted a video entitled "Sharing a secret vanlife hack! free charging FULLTIME vanlife" Excuse the poor grammar and punctuation...not mine.

I thought...here we go...another click bait video but proceeded to watch anyway to find out about the hack.

The video spent a lot of time discussing the fact that the OP was parked up on Morecambe sea front and Morecambe has buildings on the sea front that are run down, unsightly and in some cases derelict. The content then showed the big hack! This free charging hack was to hide your jackery or similar battery in a back pack, sneak into a booth in a pub with a 13A socket and steal the electricity to charge the battery. The video showed the pair of reprobates being so sneaky in their task. So I posted a comment stating this was blatant theft and asked why they didn't just dump their toilet under the table whilst they were at it?! I stated that they were giving motor-homers a bad name and things were bad enough. I was so angry about what their video was promoting especially after the first segment in their video complained about all the derelict business properties obviously left by folks that had gone under.

The OP called me a troll. I don't think I'm troll. I think I'm a conscience campervan man/motor-homer.

The OP then said that they had asked if it was OK to plug the Jackery in. Errr....why did the video show all the sneaking about to plug in the battery to charge it. I asked if they had asked the owner or the pub or an employee? I didn't get an answer but they then stated the video was for "Entertainment" I would say its not for entertainment but to gain clicks in the interest of monetising the video.

Others have pointed out the same that it was theft. Some think its OK. Some said they have gone into busienese and asked if they could charge thier abttery and be wiulling to pay. Thats OK...thats the behaviour that should be promoted...not an "entertainment" video showing two cretins acting out theft of electricity. To be clear, they say after the fact they asked for the power, but thats NOT whats shown in the video and my point is if some numpties don't read the comments and only watch the video, this could lead to a another black mark against the camper van man and community. Its disgraceful!

Thoughts?

I've complained to Youtube that the content of the promotes a bad image of the community and simple theft of electricity.

I hope others that watch said video do the same and submit a complaint. I'm not adding a link here.

It only takes a couple of cretins to promote a video like this and the local businesses and council in Morecambe, and every other town will soon ban motor-homes from their towns.

Despicable!

You could put this in room 101 you know :D

I remember well the video showing two w——-s emptying their cassette by the roadside in northern Scotland. It went viral and the land lies weeping brigade loved it.
They later said they never dumped any waste, it was meant to be funny, no more than a stunt. But the damage was done. I just wonder how many barriers and signage were erected after they posted their video.

There’s a post on here headed Room 101 and I think it’s made 31 pages within a week, some kind of record I’d hazard a guess, you might have noticed it’s where you put all your gripes :D
Ah! Not looking to break any record mate...I'm just so annoyed at this stupidity! Cheers!

Exactly my point!

I reckon I might set up a parody "Van Life" motorhome channel. How to break stuff, act like a yobbo to get the best spot on an Aire, smuggling way too much Leffe Rituel back to England etc.
Do it. (y)
You never know, may soon get a good few viewers, and be beeped at all round Europe.

Do a trucker Tim wave for MH'ers.

I've got a fair few clips from many trips, but apart from to me and a few others I'm sure they would be boring as hell, and who can be bothered with all the editing.

Will see what I can put together this year. Its remembering to turn the camera on at the right moments of course. There will be plenty. There is always a drama.

To be honest for starters
the term 'Vanlifer' makes my eyes itch ....

BUT frankly Morecombe is such a festering bumhole of a place IMHO ....
If someone grabs a cheeky charge

Then Im not sure I'm too bothered ..
Have you ever been accused of dumping your toilet where shouldn't have? Have you ever been asked to move on because someone else has? Have you ever had nasty looks from the public? Like you, that sort of thing doesn't bother me. But this type of video just gives more ammo to the hate brigade and the local councillors who just want to ban vans from towns. Would you be bothered then?

My point is that the next thing thrown at us will be "and they steal power from pubs as well" I'm not bothered about this one clown tbh. He will get whats due to him I reckon. If he does stupid stuff like this, film it, put it social media and drive around in the van thats been advertised in the video...maybe a disgruntled local will get upset and take it out on his van or him. He is doing a massive wrong to us all.

We don't actually know for sure that they didn't ask for permission. After all, customers are often allowed to charge 'phones and laptops in these places.

They say they did ask so who are we to call them liars?

Nope ....
never been accused of any of the above ...

Frankly I can't remember ever having a bad interaction with a local when parked up ...
Even the odd initially potentially grumpy farmer has ended up being friendly when he's 'caught' us litter picking and shared a brew whilst chatting about his sheep ...

To be honest most don't even realise we've been there other than it's cleaner than when when we arrived when we leave ...

To be honest ....we more often these days use fave sites or CL/CS ...

As there tend to be less knob heads on them than there are when wild camping ...

The whole 'Vanlife' thing that facebook/tiktok has facilitated has led to a huge increase in bellends ...
And to be honest no amount of education/Aires etc etc is going the alter their entitled viewpoints and behavior .
