Oops. Big bang. Bent suspension?

Glad I recommended him.

I'm certain it's the way to go. The cost of transporting your 'van will be costly but surely it must be worth it to save your pride and joy!
We can't thank you enough.
Fraser must have a reputation as the insurance chap had found him too.

Should hear back from Ageas if they are OK to sign off the work within 48 hours.

Reckon Frasers part <£10k , plus new air suspension, lasers and transport. Less than £25k which is a lot less than write off value.

So happy.

Don’t be too worried about it being an insurance write off as you can but it off the insurance company and have it repaired yourself.

Provided that the insurers oversee and pay for the repairs it will not be categorised as a write off. However If the owner purchases it from the ins company and repairs it then it would be.

It would be cat D and provided it passes a mot no problems. Doesn’t affect insuring the vehicle either.

OK. So I was being over confident and drove off the tarmac into the verge. A bit of a drop, but nothing compared to some pot holes. Heard a big bang and steering went really hard, difficult to steer back onto the tarmac. Pulled over to check. All looked OK. No restart as fuel cut off had been activated, thinking I'd crashed.
Friendly YouTube told me where to disable the cut off and on I drove.
But I could hear a noise. Pulled into a Sainsburys car park. Had a good look underneath. Rear passenger tyre being shredded on the inside as it's touching metal.
A knowledgeable tyre man said I'd probably bent the rear suspension. The insurance have passed us to Halo Portsmouth who can't get a large recovery vehicle to us till Monday.
We we supposed to catch a ferry tomorrow morning to start our Morocco trip. 😔
We have Goldschmidt rear air suspension. Do you think the big bang was our rear air bag exploding? Could it also have bent the suspension?
Any idea on repair time?

The silver linings are that it happened here. And that Sainsburys has a never ending supply of red wine. 😳
Hopefully Sainsbury's will have a few Moroccan dishes in stock to go with the red wine...... Best of luck

If cat then it should be a S as it's structural damage, BUT if you follow a FB group CoPart for salage vehicle sales you'll see they often cat write off's totally wrongly as the assessor doesn't take it apart looking for damage! (Buyer Beware)
However all's looking good for this repair as the insurers are taking care of all the work involved. Great outcome👍

Maybe coil spring ,,shame about travels but safety first ..Good Luck

So finally the insurers have agreed a repair. Happy dance! They have a place near Rochdale and have sent pix to obtain a quote. A long way from Chichester still, but closer than Inverness. Either way, a write off is not on the cards.

I also pressed the insurance broker ... probably about 50% as much again at renewal ... so that is affordable, just! We already pay a premium as ex Pats.

Tent, air beds, coolbox etc purchased. Vehicle on the ferry changed to the car. We leave for Morocco early Thursday... yippee!

Thank you so much for all your support,
Katherine and James

Brilliant news.

I'm happy to have helped you get the right result.

Have a wonderful trip!

PS I'd question any significant increase in premium. Insurance is there to pay for accidental damage such as this, that's why you take out comprehensive cover.

Don't be shy to shop around come renewal time. You don't owe your insurer any favours. They are complying with the contract between you and them!

Good point.

Worth while popping in and talking to customer services.

In the past I've had my MoHo added as a visitor from the supermarket HQ. They said I was working there for a week.!
You could also download the " Your Parking Space" App which covers most supermarket Car Parks and the App allows you to pay hourly or weekly up to 3 months at a time though I hope your gone by then LOL. This is usually cheaper than a fine from the car park management thieves!

Our issue is we are ex Pats. Only 2 brokers deal with ex Pats. One will insure the motorhome, the other, the car ... bizarre. So we are stuck with them. However, as an exiting client, based on today's prices, they reckon about £1500, so just over a 50% increase. At least, it's affordable!
