Morrisons ( REFUSE TO FILL LPG)

Its been reported when someone asked on another forum that Morrisons (Or MFG) now don't have insurance cover for anyone filling anything other than a fixed tank.

Recent reports in late 2025 indicate that Morrisons, or more specifically, the Motor Fuel Group (MFG) which now operates its forecourts, has stopped allowing the refilling of all portable LPG bottles, including "Safefill" cylinders, due to an "insurance issue".
This decision is part of a wider, ongoing policy by MFG to cease the practice of filling non-permanently fixed LPG containers across their sites due to safety concerns and commercial viability issues. The ban was prompted by an incident involving a fire and improper use of an adapter on a non-refillable bottle, leading to a review of safety protocols and insurance coverage.
Key Points:
  • The ban applies to all bottles, even those designed to be refillable like Safefill, and standard Calor gas cylinders, regardless of whether they have an external filler point.
  • The policy extends across the UK to all MFG-operated forecourts, which includes those branded as Morrisons.
  • Some locations may still permit the filling of permanently mounted, certified underslung tanks on vehicles, but this can vary by site and staff interpretation of the rules.
For users of refillable LPG bottles, it is recommended to use the FillLPG app or similar services to find alternative filling stations that still offer this service, as many BP and Shell corporate stations have also removed their LPG pumps.

This was my exact argument rob !I have install details etc not a bodge up but the guy on the end of the phone just kept saying sorry sir company policy is xxxxxxxx
I stated no adapter required and is same as a tank installed fill point but the reply was xxxxxxx I was blocking the aisle for 90 mins 30 of which were on the phone to this dept let's bombard them😁here a copy of the card
UP THE MOTORHOMERS ,UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL

Seems madness Gordon.

They are missing a trick here. Motorhomers out on holiday and attracted to a stores services to get LPG are likely to also take the opportunity to stock up on food etc. at the same time.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it. I can't tell if thats a camper van or not but I think its possibly the LPG pump thats gone up.

Then from Truth central Facebook :D

Is it a LPG pump, could be petrol pump and some idiot smoking just as easily.

Dunno. Can't make it out but the local FB post link above says the LPG pump is out of action because of it and on some forums it suggests a recent fire due to filling LPG bottles caused MFG to ban filling anything. I think they kind of already had the rule but maybe they tightened it after this. Not sure but it seems possible thats what happened.

I've a feeling it'll mainly die down in time and underslung tanks will more than likely be fillable. I'll keep using them (if it's possible) when it suits me. I don't think there's any malice towards motorhomers in their decision. I suspect it's just an (over)abundance of caution and a less than perfect implementation of a poorly defined policy.

Btw I'm right behind a boycott of P&O. The mass sacking and rehiring there was despicable and in a different league to this Morrison's issue.

Apparently not. Just seen this in FUN. This was a reply sent to one of the members from MFG. Looks like they are digging in their heels. I'm not sure lots of people contacting them has helped to be honest.

You may be right Barry. And I hope you are not. I'm slightly comforted to note their use of the phrases "current policy" and "further internal review" which suggests to me they are already having 2nd thoughts about the all encompassing scope of this policy.

I'm definitely not comforted about their use of the phrase "Thank you again for reaching out..." everybody seems to be using this now it's the latest buzz phrase.

Had it been at the start of the message rather than the end I would have stopped reading there and then!

Reminds me when everyone in the late 90s and noughties started ending conversations with "Take Care". WTF! You are telling me, a complete hedonistic Rock God tw@ to take care? Fook OFF!

Oh and lets do some Blue sky thinking. Yeah ill give you some. How about straight out of the fourth floor window?

Somebody asked where the 'reach out' phrase had come from on 'Quora', I love this bloke's reply;

"Reach out" goes on my short list of words and phrases that should be dragged down a dark alley, beaten over the head with sledge hammers, submerged in vats of acid, pecked to death by ducks, forced to listen to Barney the Dinosaur songs and Justin Beiber, exposed to high levels of radiation, made to drink white zinfandel, forced to shop at Walmart, shuttered in dark rooms with hungry rats and mice, given a diet of razor blades and head lice, have eyes stabbed with ice-picks, be hung-up on by telemarketers, and be given perpetual titty-twisters.

And that's just for starters. Dreadful, abysmally vapid, horrendously insipid, stupid and obnoxious.

I don't know who is behind this atrocious and insidious mangling and slaughter of business and customer contact language, but SOMEBODY is. This is a planned thing. I know this, because the phrase "reach out" keeps showing up in places that one would think would be immune to the infestation. I first heard it from the pathetic and annoying horde of mortgage brokers who wanted to "just reach out" and see what I thought of their cheap mortgage deals. And then, it appeared more and more often from other unthinking blobs of humanity contacting me from all manner of enterprise: charities, political calls, even appointment reminders. It was spreading, spreading, I say, like the putrescence of an unlicensed country abattoir on a hot afternoon. But when my BROKER called and said, "Mr. Geare, I just wanted to reach out..." that was the camel that broke the straw's back!

So I asked him, "Have you just been through some sales training in which the instructor suggested that saying "reach out" will give you a bit more leverage than just saying, 'ask,' or 'tell me about?'" And indeed, such was the case - he HAD; they all had! (And this is one of the largest brokerage outfits in the US).

And so, I said, "We'll you just tell the marketing guy in your office that the phrase is a disingenuous presumption on my predisposition to be persuaded by your pitch. In all these years, I have never known you to fall for whatever marketing fad might have been making the rounds, and you don't need to start NOW. And don't you, yourself, feel a bit odd using the phrase?" He agreed that it didn't sound natural to him, either. And he has, since that call, not repeated it.

SO, if YOU are using it, see the first paragraph. And if you are hearing it, then advise people to knock off the synthetic emotional outreach and talk like a normal human being."

If the above cause is the real reason for this MFG ban, then we only have those selfish few who buy these illegal devices on-line for filling non refillable bottles. Minority spoil is for the majority................AGAIN!!

I am truly sorry to hear what’s happening at Morrisons. But hopefully one day soon using gas in a motorhome will be a thing of the past. With improvements in battery tech and using diesel to heat your van and water, this will hopefully become the norm soon. But I know that’s no consolation for those with refillable systems right now.

We have deside not to have lpg refillable system this time ,
Lpg is just less available by us .and bottle gas available in lots garages and other out let's to, we will pick up spanish bottle on our winter trip..
Will pre buy gas pipe and conection adapter.

Bill, you definitely had it all thought out when you spec’d out your new and current camper 👍
