kitchen Chaos

the best wood for this job really is the pine shelves you can get in b and q etc, made of strips of pine glued together, comes in different lengths and widths, rigid and lightweight, quick coat of linseed lovely job!

Wow I am impressed, it looks fantastic!! Well done. next time we see van will it be festooned with shelves in every available space?!!:dance:

Oh yeah I see what you mean...that would be much sturdier the other piece is going back tomorrow. I am trying to think what I can adapt next its good fun !!:D

Would it be ok to just use that no nails stuff do you think to stick them together ???

don't worry what people say,its only when you start putting shelves on the outside of the van that you may need to have a chat with someone

:lol-053: I have shelves for my shelves, boxes for my boxes, drawers for my drawers....I am a nightmare :scared:

I can see one immediate challenge...that piece of wood if it is just resting on the existing worktop and just resting on a ledge on the other side may slide sideways and drop everything on the floor especially if you are setting something on it quickly....a piece of gripmat under the wood on the kitchen side and a thin piece glued to the ledge or batten on the other would probably do away with this risk.

Or a simple peg & hole arrangement. Or cut notches in the corners of the shelf & glue matching blocks onto the supports so it is positively located & cannot be dislodged accidentally.

I have an oven I don't really use because they dont get hot as a domestic oven. I keep pans etc in it (and shoes in the bottom bit! It doesn't get hot even when oven used).

The oven doors make good temporary shelves!

I have a metal desk at home with 2 slide out shelves, really useful and take up negligible space retracted, but it's beyond my woodwork skills in my MH

So simple thanks ..I didnt think of that using the oven door to balance things on... ! We dont use the over either as I am desperatly trying to get my hands on a double skillet. They are little bit pricey for me at the moment......

I had another go !!

Right I tried a second option and I am very pleased with the end result. I got a thicker peice of pine wood but narrower it cost £8.00 homebase and best of all once up I have better access to the drawers and fridge. I then had one of these 680936HBO111111X.jpg I cut it to size with a proper saw and everything :lol-053: and srewed it to the door. I then srewed two small rubber door stoppers to the wood so once placed on it doesnt move. I then made a place for it in the cupboard when not in use and it hangs on the back of the door.

I think I should have a career change  Pics to follow
