Improving Grey waste pipe emptying

Am I understanding ChatGPT correctly?

"
  • Cut the current hose after the manual valve.
  • Insert a T or Y-piece connector.
  • One leg continues to the existing outlet.
  • The other leg will lead to the electric valve."
It seems to me that the manual valve would have to be open for water to reach the electric valve. If one leaves the manual valve open, water drains from the existing outlet and the electric valve is redundant. Surely the T- or Y-piece should be before the manual valve, or am I missing something?
Guess it depends, where the manual valve is, if at end like Barry's then 'After' doesn't exist! can only mean between the valve and tank 🤔, which should read 'Before' .

Now THAT looks exactly like wot Barry wants, it serves all his criteria.
Dump water by manual valve.
Dump water by motorised valve.
Water flowing uphill.😉

We could pressurise the waste tank to solve the uphill flow problem and fit NRV's to the tank inlets to stop blow back out of the sink shower.

I think you need a pump Barry so you can pump it out and not bother if it's uphill or downhill. Nice switch in the cab to operate, bonus is you could have nozzles on the end and folks would think you were an agricultural water magician instead of a freeloader emptying grey waste everywhere :)

Any I don't need to worry about the pump using power now I have a super duper Merl and Craig David Solar system! :)

If you start at the outlet end of the pipe, "after the manual valve" means between the valve and the tank and then ChatGPT makes sense.

I remember a similar situation when I worked in logistics. The instructions were that high value merchandise was to be loaded "at the back of the trailer".
To people loading a trailer at a loading dock, the "back" of a trailer was the end furthest away from them.
The instruction was amended "load high value merchandise at the end of the trailer furthest away from the driver when the vehicle travelling at 70 mph on a motorway".

Nah, not many forklifts will do 70mph

OK, I see the illogical logic. ;)
I thought that the logic ought to be that you follow the flow!

Of course you are all failing to see an easy option.

Install two electrically operated hydraulic jacks to the 'van on the side opposite the grey waste outlet.

Having opened the valve in its current position raise the 'van on the jacks until the grey waste tank is empty, then lower the 'van once again.

The only flaw that I can see is the possibility of the fridge contents and sundry locker/shelf contents being emptied in addition.

Excellent idea.

You could also tilt the van to maximise harvesting from your solar panels. :)

I often use the side tilt function on the self-levelling suspension to make sure all the dregs of grey water are emptied. Although the drain tube only slightly rises from the bottom of the tank quite a few litres are left behind.

Or maybe you start at the open end and go along the pipe.

Both are valid and the problem occurs when people use terminology without explaining it, or when people assume that their definition is the only valid one.
