They are a great boat in that you can have various combinations of sail in different wind conditions without having to reduce the size of the main sail (reefing).
Lots of potential for day sailing, camping etc.
But be aware that they don't handle as well as a powerboat, or even a dinghy with an engine.
We had to manoeuvre out through a crowded mooring area immediately after launch, sailing out would have been challenging, so we motored out.
The boat needs it's centreboard (keel) partly lowered to give it grip and stop side slip. The rudder and engine need to be worked in tandem or else they can work against each other. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
We dry sailed ours and a decent swinging cradle was essential for launch which could be literally six inches of water keeping your feet and more importantly the trailer bearings out of salt water.
A test sail would be very useful and if I can give any advice, just shout. The drascombe association has a good website for advice and possible research and purchase.

We're at house in France, today I'll finish painting the front of the house, so not to fussed how the weather is, such a chore! Probably next week rubber on the road again heading to Italy.

Edit, front finished, one final wall to complete, which only has one window, so I’ll use the spray gun, quicker.

Nice. Where is it?
 
After an epic night of rock concerts featuring The Pretenders, Big Country, The last dinner party and Gary Numan with a fair bit of booze we have not done much today.

Nice little ride round the Loch just now. Chatted with a young Seal on a rock for a bit, parked at the castle and then watched the little ferry leave for Kintyre. You can just turn up for that one. Takes about half an hour I seem to remember.

I think we will move on tomorrow. Will have been at this spot a week!

I know. Hopefully when we get to France after here more of the same! I don't remember a spell of wall to wall sunshine here for as long as this though and more to come.
 
Apart from one day of cold n light rain its bee very warm in France, we have had two massive overhead thunder storms and we drove for quite a while yesterday on mud covered roads.
 
1976 was a roaster if a summer, lasted for months, hosepipe ban in place, folks encouraged to share a bath etc.

I spoke with my pal yesterday, he reckons hosepipe ban will be put in place, it’s not surprising when I think about all the homes being built within the Lothians alone. All sucking water from the same reservoirs. A case of watch this space for a repeat of 1976?

I do remember 1976. I was 10. It was brilliant. :D I seem to remember there was an infestation of ladybirds as well.
