French crit air

I would guess that a Policeman would have to see that I don't have a CritAir sticker, rather than an APNR camera. I have applied for stickers but the log book doesn't have any facility to show any emissions so therefore I can't get a sticker from France or Germany. Ford didn't issue COCs in 1999 because no one had heard that they are bad. I just hope that the ring roads and trunk roads are free from emission zones.
I think what might happen if I get caught is a fine, which I will reluctantly pay - it's my fault for driving past a sign - but that would still be cheaper than paying for all the modern faults you get on compliant vehicles.
Currently, checks are visual, presumably principally by the "forces de l'ordre". When automated checks are introduced, I doubt that cameras would be looking for the sticker; it would surely be simpler and more efficient to digitally check the registration against the database of vehicles in respect of which Crit-Air stickers have been issued. From what I have seen, ring roads are generally outside emission zones, but this is not always the case (Paris being one example), and trunk roads may well pass through such zones.

Very few v5c's for motorhomes show emissions, the french just need to know the year and they guess the emissions. That's why we have a sticker meant for a euro5 van on a euro4 van. :p

I today got the Critair application completed in approx 20mins.
Took time to check the practice also.
Email received 2 mins after payment made.
Website gives permission for the email to be used as proof.

I have an imported vehicle, registered in Apr 1998, with no emissions shown in the V5.

All seems good for the certificate.

Yes I registered uk van and went from a 5 to a 3. Sun has now faded sticker to plain white paper.

I got a better one that i expected :) it is worked out on first registration date.

My X244 series was built 15/03/2006 but only first registered on 01/05/2007 so just on date alone the " system " thought " it`s a later X250 series

Then there is the dreaded Angular Morticia signs. 😵‍💫
I put them on ours because it was 4,100kg along with the Crit-Air sticker, beam benders and changed the GB to UK on the registration plates :)

If you have the Crit-Air sticker then the french " system " will know your weight already

When we went abroad i didn`t want some Johnny Foreigner gendarme  who hadn`t had his bottle of wine, baguette and a shag that morning to pull us over for that reason.

We were pulled on a few occasions on general roadside checks along with numerous other vehicles and after a quick look around we got a (y) and waved on our merry way.

After changing the GB to UK on the registration plates we had several french camping-car owners ask us if we were from the Ukraine ?

I explained that the EU had dictated that we couldn`t use GB anymore and even the french said that is STUPID we all know what GB is.

Why is it dreaded?
It makes sense to remind people about blind spots.

Because they look awful, advertise you are over 3.5t when there are often restrictions on 3.5t in villages and even on the way to Aires and they can be a right PIA to remove without leaving a mark but apparently you can get cling on ones or removable ones. I think they were aimed at commercial traffic so its daft that two identical vans, one plated at 3500kg and one say at 3850kg and one of them has to have them and one not. From what I can gather most French don't bother. Ill probably get some though.

It was Boris that decided we could no longer use GB stickers, and had to swap to UK stickers, nothing to do with the EU.
