It was an MSP. Name of Fergus Ewing MSP.Petition: Stop motorhomes parking overnight out with formal campsites, caravan parks and Aires.
Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to improve licensing enforcement on motorhomes to ensure they are only parking in designated and regulated locations.petitions.parliament.scot
I think the councellor who objected to the petition was mentioned in the Northern Presss article but I cant get back into it.
Do you know who your MSP is Wully? If its Jackson Carlaw he is the chairman of the committe looking at this. He could do with an email from you!!!!We should all send them nice postcards from all the lovely places we visit stating how nice they are and wish you were here written on.
Meg. I would love to write to my MP explaining my recent trip too France and how much we enjoyed it and the money we spent over there and how much the Scottish tourism industry is missing out on because of people like this and other problems with the lack of decent motorhome facilities. We will keep taking our holidays and money abroad because of short sighted people like this and there will be hundreds more like me and a lot of overseas visitors who see stuff like this and think we are not welcome. I would rather stay in Scotland and spend our money in our own beautiful country. But when we do try we are made to feel unwelcome.
But I can’t get the words right and my grammar well that’s another story. Spellings getting a bit better thanks to spell check though
Aye uhu!! Just what we need being 'forced' to park on overpriced, over filled sites. I think not. Too entitled it sounds to me.One camping site to boycott.
Sutherland caravan park operators in move to ban motorhomes from 'wild' overnight parking
Darren and Lynn Redfern, of Dornoch Caravan and Camping Site have lodged a petition with the Scottish Parliament.www.northern-times.co.uk
Wully that is exactly what should be sent. Straight to the point.Meg. Lucky you! they still haven't replied to mine. They replied to my email to the effect that people were stealing their asssets so they had to spend lots of money on security. I assume there is nothing else to steal but water, all they need to do is shut the gates. Anyway their protest all just comes down to money.
CAMpRA did suggest that they opened a small part of their site in the winter, but they were not willing to consider it.No mention in the petition of where to park during the 5 months when they are closed, Nov 1 to March 27. Presume they don't leave their gates open.
After applying for a grant to get an elsan to cater for wild camping motorhomers ?CAMpRA did suggest that they opened a small part of their site in the winter, but they were not willing to consider it.
You would have thought they would split the convoy up a bit. Big white caterpillar on that road is poking the hornets nest, if you know what I meanYou would have though locals would have shouted out about this, I know the lady who posted this on face ache nothing but praise for their courtesy on the roads.View attachment 122447
I did seem some posts about a convey of motorhomes taking over a car park and the roads on the nc500 FB group. You would have though locals would have shouted out about this, I know the lady who posted this on face ache nothing but praise for their courtesy on the roads.View attachment 122447
A she stated when the conditions allowed they split up allowing spaces to overtake, I have seen folk not back off and use the verge when passing on that road. You would have thought they would split the convoy up a bit. Driven the road a fair bit. Been towing a caravan then driving the camper to Sands at Gairloch for nearly 30 years and seen some changes during that time.A she stated when the conditions allowed they split up allowing spaces to overtake, I have seen folk not back off and use the verge when passing on that road.
It would indeed as £11 for a service drop does seem particularly high, especially if they are on main sewerage. This doesn’t sound a helpful way to prevent the minority who do not dispose of black waste irresponsibly, which seems to be one of the aims of their petition.Highland Council contacted all campsites after Covid to ask if they would allow "service stops" for non residents. They gave grants to sites who said they allow service stops. It would be interesting to know how much Dornoch site was given.
There are never good reasons for emptying cassettes inappropriately Cie, you should never have had to do that. Any time we head out we know where we will emptying out cassette. We all know there are idiots amongst us, but as you and I know the vast majority don’t behave like that. But sadly people like this camp owner use people like that to justify this petition. £11 to empty a toilet is scandalous. The CCC give three hours full access to some of their sites for £7.60 including use of showers. If you can do this for £5 that pretty well suns them up. Well done Cie.It would indeed as £11 for a service drop does seem particularly high, especially if they are on main sewerage. I wish Aberdeenshire Council gave a grant like this. We offer a service drop for £5 since as Motorhomers ourselves we understand the need, plus sadly when we first moved to the area we spent time cleaning where cassettes had been emptied on wasteland near the sea
Unfortunately there’s only one contractor in our area that empties waste tanks so no competitive pricing. At our Aire we try to keep our service charge reasonable (unlike the price for the site discussed in this thread) but if you pay for a service drop and empty two full cassettes with us (as many do carry spares), since we have no mains sewerage here, we are actually buying our customers’ waste!
