Some people I know had a new home built last year with ground source heating, they also incorporated their holiday lodges in the heating. Last week they where querying their bills with the installers, the energy use so low they thought they where somehow reading the meters wrong, they had previously lived in a old farmhouse that leaked heat like a sieve.I am now going to stick my head in the sand along with many others and see if I can find some ground source heating.
No. The devil is in the detail, and if these prices continued it would mean hell on earth.Do you think hell will freeze over first. Even the Devil can't afford to keep warm these days.
Just been announced tonight that retail gas prices are now lower than they were prior to the war in Ukraine. But due to the fact that Europe secured its gas at much higher prices, our bills will take months maybe a year to reduce. The government have been backing on this scenario. The way things are looking the only help we will get this year will be continuing the £500 winter fuel allowance for another year. But it’s looking certain that the average bill will be below the government threshold of £3000, meaning no cash from them. Also diesel prices have been falling. Let’s hope for everyone’s sake that we are out of the woods sonnet than later. The disappointing thing about the fall in the gas price, is, that it sets the price of electricity despite the fact that heading towards 50% of power is generated by renewables which have more stable running costs.
Why does the price of gas drive electricity prices | Good Energy
We look at why the price of gas affects the prices of renewable energy and what this means for companies like us.www.goodenergy.co.uk
Obviously commodities wether fuel, electricity, food stuffs, minerals etc are traded on a longer term contract basis, but to my mind this system of pricing really is in need of reform.

The C&MC have whacked prices right up, but there will always be folk with sufficient income to absorb the increases and will still book onto their sites. Although I understand from inside info (friends who work for C&MC) that bookings have dropped a fair bit on certain sites since last year and could well continue to decline heading into 2023.
...
That could also be to do with the fact that the C&MC have recently introduced deposit taking as well. I'm guessing folks will be thinking longer and harder about booking if they stand to lose their deposits.
The C&MC policy of allowing people to book without deposit, and cancel without loss has been a bone of contention for years. The decision to charge everyone for electric caused some to leave, deposits might reduce the number of bookings, but I don't think it will reduce the actual numbers using sites, in fact it may well rise.
The block booking thing on different sites at the same time was a crazy flaw in their booking system. Why would their system allow people to do that? To book more than one site for any given day/days! Had they sorted that out they would have gone a good way down the road of stopping the problem.

I reckon these sites are going to massively go up in price this year when the owners start realising just how much its costing them. Anything with hookup will spiral especially when it all sky rockets later in the year and there is no government help. Im on a CL right now in the Lake District. £15 a night including EHU. I am trying to use the electric as little as possible but with the heating on most of the time when we are in the van I bet they will be lucky to be breaking even. Those sites without EHU will be getting ever more popular in the near future as will solar panels I bet.
We are a small CL and charge £14 a night plus leccy which is metered. Had a couple with a big MH who used £12 a night at 35p a kwh and couldn’t believe they could possibly use so much. I did explain that I did a test with my MH and with just heating on ticking over low heat I used £8.30 in 24 hrs. Scary expensive now 🏕
