    help and advice please

The unit is rated to 16amps but the mains supply you plug into will decide how much you can plug into the maypole unit , before it trips the supply limiter . as @Boris7 says you need to be aware of the electrical load of appliances .

Is ATF and PSF interchangeable ?

Considering how old the system is the higher detergent value of the atf can only be a good thing as the old oil is probably pretty bad by now , unless its been changed at some point , and oil rather than no oil is a win . If your getting noise on full lock its either belt slip or pressure...

    Sat nav decisions

The Garmin truck nav if its like my DEZL will tend to err on the safe side( main roads) with routing when truck is selected . They are very reliable for avoiding weight limits , height limits and mandated width limits but not so much with just narrow roads .

    Truck motorhome sat nave

Garmin DEZL TRUCK NAV very reliable on height, weight , but a bit over cautious on routing shorter routes , but as previous poster the width only reacts to posted width prohibitions , not on just narrow lanes due to lack of mapping data input .

    Parts problems..

About the only manufacturer that I know that keeps full range of parts going back decades is Briggs & Stratton . Some older vehicles are reliant on owners clubs for non fastmoving parts . Its going to be lack of some small part that puts otherwise viable vehicles off the road more and more .

    Autosocks v chains?

Socks are a very limited life type item for emergency unsticking , say up or down a hill . Chains will achieve the same and more for a lot longer period of use , and can be used (abused) on limited non packed snow sections , So you need to work out your likely duty cycle requirement to get...

    Starter Motor or something else

Virtually all starter motors are "pre engaged" type now , eg the solenoid levers the dog into engagement with ring gear and at end of travel bridges the contact that make it spin up . Further development is the geared drive starter .

    Starter Motor or something else

To eliminate fault in solenoid operating circuit do a straight jump from 12v feed at starter to 12v input to solenoid terminal . This will check out if starter circuit relay etc is faulty . Low voltage to solenoid gives symptoms similar to those quoted . and was common with quite a few...
