  1. A Quick Getaway......Why ?

Ahem..... I almost always park with a view to getting out again quickly and easily, whether wilding or just parking my car in a street or car park, and I usually reverse into parking spaces for the same reasons. It makes things much easier on the occasions when someone else has parked...
  2. A Quick Getaway......Why ?

I usually try to park my van ready for a quick and easy getaway, "just in case". I also try to leave room behind so that I can reverse and manoeuvre if someone tries to block me in. I've never had reason yet to make a quick exit, but it does make me feel more secure and prepared in case I should...
  3. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

The idea of this thread was to warn and discourage anyone from driving The Corkscrew, although that seems to have had mixed results! If anyone is silly enough to attempt it, then please make sure that you have a suitable vehicle and take extra special care. :) :drive: :)
  4. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

That reminds me... When you've driven over the mountain-top route towards Applecross and are descending down the other side, you see a road sign that reads "Toilets 2 miles ahead". I couldn't help thinking that they might be 2 miles (or more) too late for some drivers!! :):)
  5. re-message from admin

Don't worry Maingate, hardly anything was said about you that we didn't know already! As for any other details, I'm afraid I can't remember a thing......
  6. re-message from admin

:) To be fair to Phil, I don't think that anyone should see his comments as a "moan" in any way at all. A small handful of us who were online in the early hours saw a comment from a member with extreme, personal and uncalled for abuse and criticism aimed at Phil and his admin team, as well as...
  7. reversing camera system

A reversing camera is very useful for seeing what you've bumped into!! :):)
  8. Water filling tip

I carry one of those in my van, along with a two-litre plastic jug. Then I can use whichever is the most suitable at the time for filling up my water containers. I recently spent some time filling up with the jug from a washbasin tap, then later noticed that there was a very convenient outside...
  9. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

Part two..... Right, where was I? ...Oh yes, part way up The Corkscrew and feeling a little "on edge"..... First thing I did was to rescue my dog via the side door, then quickly summed up my options and priorities. For a brief moment I wondered if I could just walk away nonchalantly and...
  10. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

Just a little more patience, Hopefully the ending of the story should be on here within an hour or so......... :sleep-040:
  11. Which Forums can Free Members see?

I haven't been on here too much in the last couple of months and I'm not up to date with any changes to Free membership and access to Forums etc. :o Did we receive an email update about it, or is there a thread that explains it all? It's handy for us all to know these things when we're trying...
  12. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

Sorry Folks, I didn't mean to leave you all hanging in suspense! I'll try to finish the story tonight or tomorrow when I have more time. And don't worry Teffy, it does have a happy ending! Just to answer some queries... I believe that Google Earth use a 4x4 when they're filming, which would be...
  13. Romahome

Sorry, I'm not looking to buy at the moment, but do I get any points for guessing the location of the photo's? Loch na Creige, near Ardheslaig, on the coast road from Applecross to Shieldaig? A lovely sheltered spot where I slept a few weeks ago (but not suitable for a POI as there is no...
  14. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

It seems too much of a coincidence if both your leisure battery and vehicle battery come to the end of their life at the same time, unless you haven't used them both for a long time. Don't forget that the cost of a few nights on a campsite would soon go towards the price of a new battery! Hope...
  15. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

I'm really sorry, but the memories are too traumatic for me to tell the story all at once, and I haven't even got to the part with the helicopter, or the connection to Nessie yet! Spending four days on a campsite sounds much scarier to me though! What's wrong with your battery, and can it be...
  16. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

OK, I'll just tell you a little more..... I Survived!! :)
  17. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

    ...to be continued........ ( how's that for a cliffhanger?? ) :):)
  18. SAFETY WARNING: "THE CORKSCREW", Inverfarigaig, South Loch Ness.

On my recent happy wanderings around the Highlands I decided to spend a few days exploring around the shores of Loch Ness. Not wanting to miss anything of interest, I bought the local Ordnance Survey maps and a very useful guide book to the area, referring to them as I travelled around. On the...
  19. Moray Firth

I forgot to mention that I found some very level grassed parking areas along the road to Chanonry Point. Very convenient for early morning dolphin watching! They even put flags on them so we can find them more easily! :) Google Maps
  20. Benefits on sea

I never have a problem with overnighting at any seaside resort. But then, my stealth-camper still has the "Mister Whippy" sign and a couple of plastic ice-cream cones on the roof! :)
