I'd like to have a reversing camera system on my Hymer. Any suggestions please for what type of equipment, quality and where from please. Iv had sensors on the last van but do far nothing on this one

nice size screen-7",if you don't want it on show, maybe stick it on the back of the sun visot, use hard wired if you can run the wiring easily,i believe the wireless systems can get interference, nice to have 2 cameras going to a split screen, one facing rearwards, the other on the roof edge pointing down at the rear bumper for real bumper touching parking!

My van has a Waeco camera & monitor, I am not happy with the quality of it but it is only any use as a reversing camera as it is a wide angle lens. I tried changing the angle to use it as a rear view but it made vehicles behind seem much farther away than they were. Considered fitting another camera alongside it but when at the NEC bought a dual camera & monitor for £155 from DRW Electronics, Rear View Camera Specialists still in the process of fitting it. My problem was I tried to replace the wiring following where the original wire goes but can only assume wiring was done when the van was built. Decided to run the cable completely different way (came with 20 metres of cable but could have had shorter) just got to fit the camera now. I wired my system with a 3 way switch, I can turn it off, I can have the power from the ignition or I can turn it on from the leisure battery (if we want to look out the back when parked up) The quality of the picture looks far better than the Waeco, one camera is 90 degrees for looking straight back, the other is 130 degrees wide angle for looking down for reversing.

If you want the best of both worlds with one camera (ie: check traffic behind AND check your back bumper) there is a sneaky way to do this.

Reversing cameras have an anti glare adjustable cover which you position above the camera. It is possible to adjust your camera to see following traffic and fix a mirror to the inside face of the cover. When it is set at the right angle, you can see both at once.

You will have to remember not to wire the 12 volt feed through the gearbox switch as it will need a permanent switched feed.

Yes, you need to see what youv reversed into do you can decide whether to get out or quickly drive off haha
