International Use of the V-16 Warning Light and Triangles Explained

This link and other news outlets state (including N332) that foreign vehicles do not need a V16 warning light, but must continue to carry and use warning triangles. I think though it would be sensible to buy and carry a V16 light as anything that avoids turning a simple breakdown into an accident with potential danger to life makes sense to me.

Dead right there our breakdown last year was a blow out of a rear tyre , on a fast 2 lane mountain Motorway I put the warning triangles out after donning the Hi Viz jackets and frantically waving a hi viz jacket at oncoming vehicles all doing 60 plus MPH , vehicles coming round the bend behind us swerving into the out side lane narrowly missing the vehicles already in that lane , I phoned the POLICE emergency but it was so noisy that neither me or the Police could hear a thing the Barriers were too high for my wife to climb over and the drop the other side was about 60 metres, I thought that we had had it and we were about to be in the middle of a major multiple crash , but after about 15 minutes a Police car came round the bend behind us lights and siren ablaze , apparently it had been going the other way and had seem me waving the hi viz coat , then 2 more Police vehicles turned up and slowed the traffic , we were then told to follow the first police car on our three wheels for about a kilometre where there was a slip road off the Motorway ,The police said it was too dangerous to attempt a rescue where we were stuck . and luck was on our side that day because there was a small industrial estate below the slip road and one off the business was a tyre bay I could not believe our luck, luckily my Ducato carries a spare wheel which was soon fitted to my van, , the Police man spoke perfect English and directed the operation and to cap it all the guys in the tyre bay would not accept any money at all , my wheel was damaged beyond repair so a new wheel and tyre was bought on our return home 2 weeks later .

Nah I've not stuck them on (as yet). A few vehicles have them but not many. Even a lot of foreign trucks I noticed didn't bother although all the French ones have.

As for the speed limits I've gone with the 110 kph on motorways as it's faster.

As for themdarn stickers , I've had one on the back since they came out and the other 2 are chucked in the cupboard somewhere....
We spend around 6 months in Europe every year so go though france a lot.
The village 3.5 ton signs normally have a truck on them so don't apply to a motorhome..

Not many 3.5t trucks about so it makes zero sense to me.

Doesn't make much sense really, especially as 3.5 t vehicles are usually based on a very similar looking model range that can span from 2.8 or 3 tonnes through to over 5 tonnes, or even 7 tonnes with the Daily. Completely different range of vehicles at 7.5 tonnes and over.

The 80 kph in A roads is not as bad as I thought either. Its only the motorways I like to sit at 70mph

I went on a Zoom speed awareness course in the pandemic. I remembered a really useful tip yesterday which works perfectly here in our van. When you hit a 50kph (Which is often where you might get zapped) bung the van in 3rd and leave it there. It just feels right and a bit revvy at 50. If you hit a 30kph bung it in second and leave it there. Its spot on. Mind you then you hit the usual village or town speed bumps anyway so its 2 mph over them pissing off everyone behind you.

If on the Honda scooter ignore all of the above.

They don't say the breathalysers are a requirement though, unless I missed it.

Some may think it's sensible to have a breathalyser, regardless of law.

Been a good few years since it was a legal requirement to be completely hammered behind the wheel while in France.

I did not remove the backing sheet and stuck them on with insulating tape around the edge. Easy to remove later and reuse.

I've got a set of magnetic ones that I've neve used, I'm usually only in France for 1/2 hour going from and to the ferry at Dunkirk and that's not in an urban area.
