Passed two Gendarme motors snuck away with their zap gun to check your speed. Earlier during our trip, on route to Italy, at one peage, the place was swarming with Gendarmes and the equivalent of UK immigration officers pulling over at random, any vehicle they saw fit to pull in and do a search.

On seeing our innocent faces, we were waved through.

Re: Speed, at 90kph, the legal max speed for camper weight, Ian happy with this, recs a tad over 2000 when cruising, makes for a comfortable and economical drive.

I'm sticking with a speed limit of 110 kmh. The 90kmh is for commercials over 3.5 tonnes. The speed limit for buses/coaches of over 3.5 tonnes and under 12 tonnes is 110kmh. Motorhomes or camper cars are as buses/coaches as designed for transport of people.

Now, I was going to suggest that not all MH's transport people, but that would be really rude!

Well I can only guess that as Barry doesn't know the speed limits in France he has never been there before, who's going to break it to him that the French have bars instead of pubs, and frown upon a 'full english' breakfast, and I don't recall seeing wensleydale cheese and pork pies anywhere, might have to search out specialist shops for proper english grub.

Its 4.25t so I have bought them but there seem to be two camps. Those that stick them on and those that don't. There isn't a single van in the Canterbury park and ride right now with them on and some of them will be over 3.5t.

The two camps also divide into them what wants to run the risk of incurring a fine, and them what don't ... If you don't want to obey the laws of the country you're proposing to visit, go somewhere else - it's that simple

I bet I've been to more departments (Certainly every region) than most people on this forum! Its been a while though.

Still no definitive answer on the speed limit then on motorways. Looks like ill go with 110 on motorways and 80 on normal roads. Ish.

Im not worried about the French kids nicking my Angela Monger stickers as they are under the drivers seat. For now at least. Ive stuck on me Critical Aires number 2 and the UK on the back of the van and the bike. That will do.

And just to add to your confusion Barry, how will you approach the villages and roads with a 3.5ton limit sign, or the 3.5ton sign with a subsidiary plate with a truck pictured on it.

Just do what the Germans do with their massive motorhomes. Ignore it. I think most of them are aimed at commercials anyway not motorhomers coming to spend all their money in the village on cheese, beer and haircuts.

I used to always get flashed by cameras every year but never heard anything back but I hear they can follow you home now so best be careful. It won't be so much of an issue after Wednesday. Got 450 miles to get a wiggle on tomorrow and Wednesday then it will be bimble mode for pretty much the next three months.

Yes, I often get flashed a couple of times on each trip (5 trips a year) in the car or van for the last 3 years to our holiday home and have yet to get a ticket posted to our UK home, the method they were using here I think meant you didn't escape without paying there and then. I think some of the flashes were false alarms, assuming I was a truck due to height, but as a motorhome I was not actually speeding so not guilty
