Do we have a right to park or not

It should also be noted that temporary parking restrictions come into play for the duration of the fair for safety reasons.

Some residents aren't even allowed to park outside their own houses whilst the fair is on so it could be deemed a bit provocative for Motorhomes to turn up and want overnight parking - why would anybody want to anyway?

I think the Youtuber knew exactly what he was doing!
And I suspect AS in previous years Public space protection orders too.

Let’s put this event and the troubles it can create to one side.
What this highlights is the lack of joined up thinking that’s required in our country.
Currently we are at the behest of local councils, some of whom treat us poorly, whilst others bend over backwards to accommodate us, even when their efforts are rewarded by selfish stupid behaviour by some of us, as we have seen in Fife and other places.
In Scotland I am pleased to say things are slowly improving, on a recent trip we found new Aires, and several elsan points that until recently never existed. One Elsan point in a park in fort Augustus which I will add to our POIs if not already done, really pleasantly surprised me. They seem to be cropping up all over the country, thanks to the efforts of some including CAMpRA.
But we simply don’t WC outside of Scotland, it seems to be to much hassle, and I am fearful of upsetting anyone. When in England and Wales we use sites, Aires, or CLs.
I honestly think the government need to get to grips with this, it needs to be dealt with nationally.
It’s been handled nationally in other countries why not here.
And yes Portugal have banned WC, but they have hundreds of AIRES where you can park legally, we don’t.

That’s an excellent point Rob.
Possibly he did know what he was doing.

I'm not saying that he expected what happened Bill, but he is a YouTuber and I think he headed for Appleby with the intention of getting a controversial story out of it.

I wouldn't go within a hundred miles of it when the fair is on, I've been caught out on the A66 before, it's a nightmare.

You have to excuse my ignorance here Rob, I was not aware of this Fair.
Possibly you are correct, if so I am disappointed in him.
He has done so much good work on our behalf in the recent past.
But as I said I think there is a much bigger picture here which requires sorting out.
I don’t always agree with him, sometimes as in his Morecambe coverage I felt he was parking in front of people’s homes, something I simply don’t do.
But he is very passionate about our rights, but it does not excuse provoking a situation to get a story, if that is what he may have done.

One thing that would reign in police abusing their powers would be any claim against a police officer proven guilty of abusing their powers and compensation being paid should have to be paid by the guilty officer and not come out of the public purse. As is happening now in some parts of the USA.
As they are so quick to trot out to the public. If you are not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to fear. The same would apply to them, if they were not abusing their powers then they have nothing to fear.
Lying and threatening is an abuse of power.

The authorities have been trying to close this fair for decades.

I've liked some of his videos Bill and maybe I've got it wrong about this one.

But I'm ever cynical about a lot of online stuff these days...

Yes and with AI things are sure to get worse, bye the way I never posted any of this today, my AI host did, I take absolutely no responsibility for any of these posts.
I am only glad that one of us is intelligent :)

Appleby is fine if you like seeing horses and ponies being abused, or you want to buy a cheap pedigree dog (stolen from a garden at the other end of the country), or like watching morons get mortal drunk and start fighting in the streets.

I mean no insult to the minority (those with the true Gypsy blood and manners), it's the riff raff, crime committing travellers I have no time for.

The Police acted badly, sadly nothing will be done about it. That's the state of British Policing today and why so many are leaving the job.

I'm with Rob on this. I've not watched the whole thing as I can't stand these "Van life" videos but it looks very much to me like he has gone there to Appleby and parked outside a load of houses in the village knowing full well he would get a nock. Its a feckin nightmare that fair for the locals. I had friends when I had my boat on Ullswater that lived there and for two weeks around the fair time they moved into their boat and just took their chances that their house would still be standing when they got home and its contents still intact. According to them loads of villagers do the same. Police and villagers will be on high alert so this comes as no surprise.

I am sure that the vast majority of the the Travellers behave themselves but having lived on the route for twenty five years and paid to clean up their mess and damage and for extra policing etc there is a good percentage that don't. I think its got better to be fair over the years or we have got better at preparing for it.

The police acted wrongly, they should have provided information when asked. Also the reason given was a complaint from a policeman who had now gone off duty???

In any event right or wrongly when you get the ultimatum you move if any sense. Hopefully this will result in a complaint, which by the way will end up costing tax payers more money when they have to pay out. If you watch some of the 'Audit' videos online it's scandalous the amount of times police try to abuse laws, it's costing taxpayers a fortune.

Hence post #27. It's all just about making the public comply to their will and to feed their own egos.

You need to watch it.

You need to watch it.

Ok so I have watched it all. It would seem that the Rozzers warned them to move previously but the motorhomers deny this. Who is telling the truth? Lets say the motorhomers are telling the truth and they were not warned to move then they probably have a good case if there are no signs up so let them fight it out in court. Of course we are only seeing their side of the story. I stand by what I said though when I agreed with Rob. They have clearly gone there intent with getting a story, looking to be moved on I reckon.

I imagine you would get the same sort of treatment if you parked up at Glastonbury or Pilton when the festival was on. Even if the fair was not on I personally think its a very inconsiderate place to park. Right on a village green where to me it looked like parking was tight anyway and right near peoples homes. No sympathy for either of them but the journalist in the car story was a bit odd but again we only have one side of the story.
