What type of bedding do you carry in your Van?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything specific when I did a search, so here goes - purely for a bit of fun!

We have always squabbled about what bedding to have in the van.

I feel the cold, so have always taken 2 double quilts; 1 summer tog, 1 winter tog and a hot water bottle is an essential piece of kit.

His nibs thinks the 2 quilts take up too much storage space (they don't really, depends how well you pack 'em  🥴 )

Anyway, I'm solving the problem by going full-on consumer and have ordered a double silk filled multi-season duvet (£69 off eBay, highly recommend it). Have a king size one on the house bed and it is blummin' magic! Best duvet I've ever owned. Major advantage is it packs down small and you only need the one, so hopefully no more whingeing over bedding... 🤞:ROFLMAO:🙃

So, what bedding do you guys take and use in the van?
you forgot an option which is more common than you might imagine .... Electric Blanket :)
I have the Electric Blanket between the Mattress and the Topper.

I don't know how anyone can sleep on the "Puzzle Beds" WITHOUT a mattress topper to help iron out all the lines, bumps and ridges from countless pieces of eat cushions?

Haven't sorted a "mattress topper" arrangement for our new van ("Puzzle Bed"!), but definitely need to.

Was thinking of something like this, or similar? - Merino Wool Under Blanket 100% Natural Mattress Topper Bed Pad

Comes in different colours and think it might double up as a cover for one of the bench seats during the day.

I've already sorted a throw (just a throw, not used for bedding) to protect the other bench seat - it's a hippy-style thing I've carted around and hung onto for at least 40 years and never used much, but by happy coincidence it matches the upholstery!! 😀😂

I thought that when we bought our Kontiki 15 years ago. How could the rear lounge or front lounge beds be possibly comfortable when made up but they are and you can fit sheets onto them. In fact I can honestly say out of all the beds I have slept on (which is many) its one of the best. Maybe Swift used real quality stuff back in the 90s I dunno but 26 years later its still amazingly good.

Oh, just another option missing ....

Well, it is not really missing ;) But might be useful to consider .... The type of duvet cover, sheets, etc.?

I wanted to get a new duvet cover, pillow cases, sheets, etc for the Motorhome. Bit of a Refresh from the stuff I moved over from the Stripey Daktari Campervan. And I came across these ones on Amazon.... https://amzn.to/3MZy2SB is an example, but basically it is a range of microfibre bedding called "Utopia". There is honestly nothing I don't love about it! Great price; Lovely feel to it; Washes well; The openings zip up completely so no gaps for anything to get lost it or fll out of when moving it around. Highly recommended.
I've actually also got a single duvet sized cover from that range which is a perfect size to go over a 4' (small double) mattress topper, so it protects the topper cover and acts as a sheet at the same time.
(one thing to note: the prices vary by colour, so if you like a few different colours, check the price for each one).

FWIW, I have these .....
For the overcab bed - https://amzn.to/3P8Gx0q. The supplied matteress is quite thin and this doubles up the thickness and is very comfy. Lives up there all the time and I had to trim the sides top and bottom to match the curve.

And for the lower "puzzle bed", I have this topper - https://amzn.to/3Ckymqd . (this was a LOT cheaper when I bought it 18 months ago!) This is very nice to lie on.
I like this one as it is the one with the duvet cover fitted on it, so if want to use this, it is a matter of just pulling the bench seat out and dropping down the seat backs (total of 4 pieces) and then flopping this on top and jobs done. no sheets to put on or anything.
I only put this in the van when I know it is going to be needed though. It is a bit too bulky to go in a cupboard or anything (it get stored in the overcab bed area when brought).

Microfibre bedding is not for me, but it's a very convenient fabric. Whatever floats your boat. :)

I don't really like microfibre fabrics. I tend to use old cotton towels and cotton facecloths for all kinds of cleaning jobs and I don't like certain artificial fabrics next to my skin either. I know we've come a long way from Bri-Nylon and brushed nylon sheets, but even so...! 😉 😜 😄

Had a bit of a belly laugh at their "Climate Pledge Friendly" greenwashing sticker! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::rolleyes:🙄

That's a good idea, David, but we just don't have enough storage in the van for a separate proper "thicker" topper.

When I got it, it reminded me of the good old "Brushed Cotton" sheets ("flannelette"?). Feels loverly to me anyway :D
I've no idea about any pledges listed TBH. Didn't look.

Interesting thread! We use a thick lambs fleece under blanket, cotton sheet and cotton-covered goose down duvet all of which is toasty in the coldest weather and comfortably breathable most of the rest of the time. If it’s hot we just use the cotton duvet cover as an topsheet instead of the duvet.

If you really want extra comfort, but short of space, how about using compression sacks/bags. Plenty available for all different sizes.

Downside is, it will add a few minutes to pack up/setting up times, or you could use the compression bags for stuff you rarely use allowing more room for stuff used daily.
