Wanted: Inflatable Kayak?

Maybe we ought to have a boating meet  For people who either have boats/canoes/sailboards etc. or fancy trying it out. Used to enjoy going away for boating weekends with the works sailing club. Still got 3 sailboards + gear in the garage, problem is there is no way I can carry them in the van (wish we had got a ladder & roof bars fitted :( have to remember to get one on the next van :))

This has been suggested a couple of times in the past and me and the wife are interested in a meet up. Would be cool

Have had our Seadoo kayak kit for some time now. All including pump and bits pack up in a sack, which weighs 15kg. Love the idea that the air tubes are removable for ongoing repairs/replacements. Not the cheapest piece of kit, but I think it was well worth the money spent.
Close friends have the Sea Eagle kit, which they love too. Did change the seats on their's to the lux one's. Downside is that they did suffer a punchure to a side tube during a recent trip. We went through the same stretch and was undamaged, but guess that it was because the air tube's are not so exposed as they sit inside the fabric of the hull.

I too have just seen them in Lidl @ £79.99 , looks ok for the money , well worth a look I think if its only for occasional use .:D:D:D

Only looked big enough for one small person. Not too bad for the price though.

It's surprising that what might seem to be quite big on the shore can be really small when you are out on the water

I think they are fine providing that you are inland on canalways, not too sure if I would go out sea with them or riverways.

It may or may not be of use! but we had two of the boats from the first post. We had two outings both on flat river water, the first was fine and on the 2nd a floor tube weld went. So they went back. Previously to that we had a Sevylor Hudson but we burst that in 8' surf!

Now, we are a family of 5 two adults, 3 kids 9,8 and 6 and have come to the conclusion that unless we buy the Gumotex, Sevylor or Sea Eagle Class 4 capable (Canoe/kayak difficulty standard) inflatable boats then they are just not going to cut the mustard for what we want. This boats are £550 up to £950 each (doubles) depending on make. Whitewater Class 4 inflatables

We venture into sea and river regularly, but not surf unless on hols in Cornwall etc where we most definitely do!!

For us we've come to the conclusion that rigid sit on tops are the way forward. Storage and transport is an issue for these boats though. We loved the ease of transport of inflatables, but setting up then later taking down and drying are a real PITA. looking on the canoe forums, even with the Class 4 inflatables repairs are considered the norm.

Hoping to get to Bala this weekend to try my new inflatable out. Had it blown up in the garden & it looks good. Not so happy about the sail rig but I seem to be getting the problems sorted out. Got the boat from Spindrift UK & they seem really helpful. :)

inflatable canoe

Does anyone have an inflatable Kayak they want to sell per chance?

Something like this.....

2 or 1 Man Inflatable Kayak. £199 Upgraded Model on eBay (end time 20-Mar-10 08:49:52 GMT)

Cheers folks.... :)

hello been canoeing in sea last weekend, my mate just bought inflatable very stable but hard work paddling very much like a barge, soon blow you off course, ive got a two man sit on top, so much fun surfing in on waves and glides thru the water,so go for a sit on top,

I had problems with the sailing rig & wasn't happy with the quality, after talking to Spindrift I exchanged the Paddleski & sail rig, instead I got a Sea Eagle Fast Track 385. Tried it out in the sea off Anglesey, easy enough to paddle, does what it says & tracks well, didn't seem to be effected much by the wind.

We use a Gumotex which I bought after masses of internet research. Their construction material is as used by white water rafts and the Gumotex range of kayaks are used by adventure companies where river access is difficult with rigids.

We've run ours aground on sharp ingeous rocks in Norway amongst other places with no damage, and in day to day use they're pretty much bulletproof.

The design of the longitudinal tubes underneath and the aluminium bolt-on fin mean that they track faster and better than the usual sit-on-tops that you get in holiday destinations.

The pumping up and putting away doesn't take long and the inconvenience is far outweighed by the superb packaging - I never cease to be delighted at the way you can get your massive 3.5m tandem kayak out of a small bag and stuff it in a corner of the van when it's not in use. The other bonus is that you have no security issue of getting it nicked off the roof.

I wouldn't buy a cheap one - the security of being in a quality bit of kit is comforting to say the least when you're in a the middle a glacial lake in the middle of nowhere, I can tell you!

How much are you after??

I maybe interested at right price, also have you sailed it?? if so what was it like? I have sailed and wind surfed.

Yes sailed it, paddled it and used an outboard. Very versatile boat. It is popular as it is easy to store, easy to launch and offers so many opportunities (solo, tandem or tandem + 1 young child). I originally purchased it with no intention to sail it, but ended up enjoying the sailing aspect of this craft more than paddling or using the outboard.

Loads of un-biased reviews and videos on youtube. No one can argue that it isn't a LOT of fun and a very easy boat to own / use.

Drop us a pm if interested.
