Now that I have got my vans paperwork sorted out, I thought I would mention a pet hate of mine seeing as the taxation class of Ambulances was mentioned earlier.
VED Evaders!
There are hundreds if not thousands of ex service vehicles on the road, old Police riot vans and Ambulances are very popular for people to convert into motor caravans burger bars mobile workshops etc.
When these vehicles are being used for their original purpose most were ved exempt.
When they are sold on to private individuals there is no process to automatically remove the now invalid exemption.
It truly incredible how many dishonest people run ex service vehicles whilst blatantly exploiting the vehicles previous tax exemption status.
A few may have been gullible enough to believe the bs from the salesman that they are ved exempt but most knowingly do so.
What annoys me the most is there is absolutely no way of reporting these people to the DVLA and they are never caught by ANPR or DVSA checks either.
Once someone's honesty and integrity goes out the window you can be pretty sure they probably aren't to bothered about cutting other corners e.g.
Driving an over weight vehicle
Lying to their insurers
Pay less attention to speed limits.
Don't bother to maintain their vehicles properly etc.
