Trouble with my mojo

Check the EU Official Stay Calculator, Barry. There is an advantage available because of the 'Rolling 90 Days in any one 180 Days'. If you use your 90 days in one trip, then you will have to wait 90 days for the next visit. HOWEVER, if you limit your first trip to say 60 days, then you leave yourself 30 days unused, and if you take a second trip after a 70 day stay back in UK, you will begin to gain the use of days from your first trip that have 'decayed' [are older than 180 days], enabling you to anticipate those decaying days. In effect, if, say the first 30 days of your first trip will be more than 180 days by the planned end of your second trip, you can add them onto the 30 days you have left from your first 60 days trip.

It needs some playing around with dates [but the EU Stay Calculator is designed to permit this], but the difference that saving some of your original 90 days is worthwhile. It can make the difference between squeezing in a second trip that finishes in Autumn sunshine. instead of one that ends in Winter

Trouble is we tend to do our long trips early summer to Autumn. Generally 4-6 months was always the pattern. Dont bother with Winter apart from maybe the odd 3 or 4 weeks over Christmas and New Year on CL sites in the UK. I dont think I would want to travel all the way down to southern Europe for 60 days and then come back again. What we probably would do would be to combine a full 90 days with maybe a month or two in the UK. Up in the air at the moment.

Personally I am quite happy holidaying in the UK, there is still so much of it I haven't seen properly yet.

I still haven't travelled anywhere in the world which pleases me more than Scotland to be honest.

You would love the Pyrenees and the Alps Rob, especially if you managed to trail that bike of yours!

I am actually planning a trip to the Alps with some mates on the bike Barry, but that's just a few days away with the lads, I'm sure I will find it stunning though.

There's just something about Scotland though that gets my vote every time. They even speak a sort of English up there! 🤣

1. Enter Date of Entry/Control 07/08/23 [Planned date of 2nd Trip Finish]
2. Enter Previous Stay in Schengen Area LH Column 01/10/22
3. Enter Leave Date of Previous Stay in Schengen Area RH Column 01/12/22. Press 'Calculate' to show Days Stayed as 62
4. Enter Planned Start Date of 2nd trip in Schengen Area LH Column 07/04/23
5. Enter Planned Finish Date of 2nd trip in Schengen Area RH Column 30/06/23. Press 'Calculate' to show Days Stayed as 85

So, you will have stayed 147 days for the 2 trips, because you are NOT limited to 90 days, but 90 days on a rolling basis, so after your initial 28 days from tTrip 1 is exhausted, the 'decayed' days from 01/10/22 fall away, and can be added to the end of Trip 2. In fact the Schengen Calculator says you could stay until 11/08/23 without becoming an overstayer!

Well Sue and I have decided to bit the bullet and go over to la belle france on the 21st of the month, I must admit that I am filled with trepidation, but with the trusty satnag in front of me and the one along side in the passenger seat there will either be a great adventure or a murder, we'll see

I seem to be having a little trouble and wondered if anyone else has the same.

When I first got my van at the tender and enthusiastic age of 60 I travelled all over, and right down to southern Spain. I stayed it many places including rather unsavoury laybys.

I don't know if it's covid lockdown or age related ( I am now 70) but I am struggling to decide whether to go to France for a couple of weeks, or just stay in England.

I know England is wonderful and in the past have done both.
I'm currently in France for a couple of months and for my next 2-month trip later in the year I will have reached what you seem to regard as a critical age. Yes, there are issues in France at the moment due to protests relating to legislation to increase the retirement age, but they appear in the main to affect a limited number of major cities on/around days of action and to have some impact on fuel availability particularly in specific regions. At the moment, I have found it easy enough to work round these. If not in France, I would be looking not at England but Scotland (which I will squeeze in before the next trip to France).

We are getting as many trips to the continent as we can, whilst we are still able to do it. Were had a couple of months in Spain in the winter and are off to Sicily in a weeks time. I have also planned a touring trip across to western Germany for September. Broadly speaking we follow the time line that Marchie suggests in his post above: approx 60 days across Jan-Mar then another 30 in May; then another 30 in Sept when the Jan-Mar ones have fallen off the 90 day calendar...then rinse and repeat the following year. We had to truncate the Spanish trip a little this year so as to ensure we had more Schengen days for the Sicily trip.

Aside from that we tour the UK for another 4 months or so and did some cracking trips when we were coming out of lockdown.

Please Miss can I go out to play 😇😇
Spent the last 3 years locked down with covid as I didn't want to end up in a box and the back end of last year I had my knee repaired (it's a bugger trying to use a crutch on the throttle and brake but with a lot of practice I managed 👍) I have now got the all clear from the fella with the knife from the cut and slash department so we are back on our travels and planning a trip through the tunnel and travels at home, Marjorie is 87 and I'm 86 middle of this month and as long as we are safe to drive then we are off on our jollies, who wants to end up in an old folks sat in a chair looking at 4 walls, get up off your arse and enjoy life 🥳🥳🥳
Happy travels, don't forget that if you see me coming towards you I will be on the other side of the road 🤫🤫 I think

Life goals right there, good for you 😃

We had planned 3 months in Norway, it has taken a bit of a hit with a trip to Spain while our granddaughter was in intensive care in Cadiz, she is fine now...
We now have to rearrange things due to the 90 day thing as we had planned the second 90 day from November...we also have Greece with friends chucked into the middle of it....along with a 3 week fly drive in Nova Scotia in September...
Now sat in a howling gale in the sunshine in Cornwall...
All being well with the steroid injections in my feet so I can walk. Wonderful big majic tube of relief.
