@mariesnowgoose you use an iPhone don't you? If so add your cards, PayPal etc to the Wallet then you can do it all from your phone. I only know apple and its safe.

If you are going to be connecting to lots of free wifi (like a lot of the YouTubers do) then a VPN is worth having. I run Surfshark although only on my MacBook and probably don't need it because I am almost always connected to my own networks. I got it to allow me to spoof being in another country for streaming things.

I do all my banking on my iPhone and have done for many years now

Atlas Obscura: great for visiting, often small, but unusual places. Always check what is nearby. Found some gems.

Banking apps. Life must go on with moving money around and paying bills.

Organic Maps: creators formerly sold Maps.Me. I put coloured pins on for walks, attractions, parking's etc. That gives me an idea of a route. Always like to stop to see something on a journey.

CoPilot: gps navigation using downloaded maps.

One of the best things we did was change our bank account. We were with Lloyds and then TSB. Both charged the earth when abroad, so we checked around. We landed on Starling. (or perhaps the Starling landed on us?) Not only the best rates for transactions, but free cash withdrawals. But one of the best things is the speed that they convert fuel sales and replace to "ringfenced" as available in the account. It is normally done within 20 minutes. TSB would take up to two days!

Obviously S4S is a must as in CCP. ACSI is rarely used, but just a couple of savings can pay for it. For navigation, we have a Garmin 770 Camper sat nav, backed up by Google maps and sometimes Magic Earth where I can input the van dimensions. We then just drive and when we have had enough or find a good place to stop, we open an app and see what is around us.
