The future of motorhome TV and Data

3 types of usb plugs I hate to inform you off.

Bit out of touch since retiring but you certainly could get data SIM cards that roamed in the U.K. problem was they weren’t cheap which is what most folks want. Best deal I recall from about 5 years ago was an Isle of Man company. Look for business or B2B and M2B sim deals

i use the same magnetic ones as kev they come with different fittings so though you buy 4 cables each one comes with 4 adapters so you can put the adapters in a 16 devices & use the same cables has been a game changer for me

Is this the sort of thing you had in mind? https://broadbandgo.com/#/
No, I haven't tried it myself.
They will be at the NEC next week on the maxview stand, hall 12, stand 93.

Yes thats the idea but Im not sure I would want to deal with this company. Their website doesn't work properly and they seem to think 10gb of data a month is for a heavy user at £199 a year. To put that into perspective right now we are using about 15gb per 24 hours!

What it needs is for the main providers to do unlimited cross provider full roaming access. Lets say its £30 a month for a contract sim for unlimited calls and data. I would happily pay an add on surcharge for multi provider say, EE, Vodafone, O2 etc and another add on for EU roaming with the western Europe equivalent providers. Its not rocket science so lets have it!

We have the technology to watch, surf, call etc whatever and whenever we want, the only thing that is limiting that is mobile providers themselves.

In 2022 really everything should be on demand anywhere. If I want to watch Breaking Bad, the latest movie or spend hours on here talking nonsense then you really should be able to do that easily now without it costing a fortune.

My tarriff with talkmobile (Vodafone) is 8gb pm @£8 it's more than enough for me, so much I've not bothered buying a new Three 24/24 SIM..

I missed the point earlier about latching on to other providers regardless of your own provider, I should think it might be fraught with admin problems sorting out who pays who, and also the tariffs, wouldn't they all need to be the same or you'd just go with the cheapest?

Interesting Bill. This is the kind of thing I am talking about. It wont be perfect as there will still be some places you wont get a signal on anything but they must be few and far between. I remember our last trip into Europe in 2017 (cant believe its that long ago) and by then the roaming was superb. Unlimited and across various providers. When the satellite ran out of footprint we could watch Live TV via Filmon (Which i think is defunct now) but my thinking is everything I do now as regards electronic entertainment either at home or the van is done via the internet. I hardly ever watch live TV but Michelle likes to now and again but whether your in the "I dont use TV or internet on the van" camp or not its invaluable on a long trip to have constant access to the net. At least I think so and its frustrating as the technology is in place to just do all of this through one sim card anywhere in Europe really but in practice right now its not so easy.
We’ve been visiting all the dead end valleys in Swiss and Italian Alps. Despite the remoteness of many of these locations we have never been without a signal either on mifi or mobile phone. We get second rate service in rural UK.

It happens now in mainland Europe Kev and has done for years. My Vodafone service works better in the Swiss Alps or Pyrenees or anywhere in Europe than it does in the UK as Barge1914 concurs above and the reason for that is Vodafone (And other providers I believe) latch onto whatever network is available which I presume they have agreements with. The only downside now of course "over there" is because we are no longer in the EU we dont get the free roaming we used to but this is all semantics. The frustrating thing is its all clearly possible and doable as its already been done.

Is there much difference in the tariffs of the various providers anyway? Maybe a quid here or there but Im talking about top end unlimited monthly tariffs which have the added bonus of what we could call "provider roaming". It may well attract a premium and could be a money spinner for some. I would certainly pay more for it.

You're talking a lot of sense Barry.
Will it happen ?
Still envisaging the 'white tit' on your roof .
Quite disturbing

I suppose it'll be down to how many actually want or need it.
We don’t need it, we don’t need much, we don’t need motorhomes either.

But we want them and that’s what will make things happen, that’s what drives demand Pudsey. ;)

A quick google on "all network sims uk" throws up a few small companies similar to the one posted earlier that do them. Most dont have any costs and the odd one that does the data amounts are pathetic and basically unusable.

See if this produces any results.

Like all things Barry they develop with time. Demand will drive supply, and this world is changing so fast. What I am doing right now has only been possible for two decades or so. Talking to people whilst viewing them anywhere in the world, sending pictures to friends worldwide, setting up tv recordings in your home from your hotel room in Florida, it’s all normal now, but not that long ago it seemed impossible. Never underestimate human ingenuity.

I just want stuff that works properly and doesn't break down or become obsolete every 5 minutes! :)
I know Marie, it’s hard to keep up with all the changes nowadays.
In 1975 I bought a Canon AE1 SLR camera, that camera was unchanged for several years winning practical photography of the year model each year. Then about 6-7 years later Canon brought out the AE1 programme. There was one difference the AE1 programme could automatically shoot in both aperture and shutter priority, the AE1 only shutter priority. Now you buy a camera, and six months later it’s been replaced.
