Stop start technology?

I thought stop-start systems checked battery health to ensure the engine would start before stopping it.
So generally having a dodgy battery shouldn't be an issue as the engine will just keep running until you turn it off.
I'm not convinced that the battery is the problem.
That extra year's warranty could be useful in sorting out the control problem.
I can see sense in stop-start for commuter vehicles but motorhomes not so much.
Of course Fiat just make the base unit and most won't be motorhomes.
