Shamrock Diaries

The cat is fine, she lets you know exactly what she wants!

Weather good, will post more pics when I get a chance. Settled in for the week, been busy with greenhouse, watering, seedlings etc. and Neil has been sussing out a drone he bought last year…

Just awake now, sleeping like a log, you can hear a pin drop here!

DJI mini is a good drone, you are in for a week of good weather, took yesterday to remove back van hubs and sort sticky brake cyl, all 100% now.
Some jobs to do around the house and a engine to change in car, getting a bit old for some jobs along with health problems last year.

Think he paid £300 or £400 for it. If folk think that’s cheap then I’m definitely a pauper! 😳🤣😎
£359 on line, but the better dji mini 3 can now be boughyt cheap as a new model 4 is out.

I'd love a drone, but it would have to be one with collision avoidance so I get to keep it for a while! But as they cost a packet, I guess that will have to wait. Especially as I have just bough a GoPro Max2 360 camera and a few upgrades for my old Amiga 600 Computer! And not to mention too much about the new display kit for the Steam Fairs we do... (Evidently, we are not made of money!)

Lazy day today in Ireland. ☘️

Might pot up some tomato seedlings in the polytunnel later this morning after taking the cat for her daily quarter mile walk - she comes and tells you when she wants to set off… 🤗 ☺️🐈‍⬛

Still deciding where we want go and what to see when we leave here next Monday 🤔

Forecast dry and sunny, but temp will only reach 12 degrees today.
The air is cool, but it will be lovely in the sun later on.

However, they are predicting a warm spell on the way this week, 21 or more - going to be warmer than the Canaries, apparently. Yay! 😃😎👌

@Boris7 I do like that little summer house on top of your van Marie, does it fold down for driving 😉

🤣😜

We spoke to a couple of residents when we first got here last night and they are absolutely fine about us parking our van up for the night. This park up is on Search for Sites. It’s just a little public car park with picnic tables, but very quiet and pretty. I’d forgotten how noise free it is over here - apart from the birds this morning! 🙂❤️
Your photos bring back to some very happy memories. We stayed there 11 years ago when I took my daughters on our first motorhome trip, to see where their Granny grew up in the 1920’s in Drumshambo, which is just down the road from where you parked. I remember the owner of the house came to check we weren’t Travellers and was very friendly, especially once he knew we had a family connection to the area!

That is a stunning location to stay for a night next to the lough.

Trev, you have a short memory! We did quite a lot of Donegal (and the North West of Ireland starting from Galway upwards) last year!🤪😁

It's beautiful in Donegal and I would definitely go back, but this trip was specifically to visit south west, including Kerry in particular (where my grandfather was born).

Think we'll take a peek at the Burren, Lisdoonvarna, maybe a fleeting pub stop at Gus O'Connors pub in Doolin (where I had the good fortune to have a long conversation with Micho Russell back in the 1980s when we went there on motorbikes), and Cliffs of Moher for starters...

Milltown, Kilorglin, Killarney and the Ring of Kerry, Macgillycuddy's Reeks (which you could see from my grandfather's farm, apparently) and that general area... (grandfather's house in the North East of England was named Innisfallen after the island of the same name...? ).

Other than that we're still taking our time this week of housesitting working out where else we fancy... think Neil night like to visit the Rock of Cashel...

I would also like to go to Jimi Blake's place at Hunting Brook Garden in County Wicklow on the way back up for the ferry. He came over and gave us a talk in Northumberland a couple of years back. He took some of my wild orchids back home with him. Be great to see his garden which looks really interesting. He's a proper plant nutter like myself! 🤪🧐😜🤣

The burren is very nice, did that when i was 10/12 with g parents in out ford GT cortena, then up through Galway/salthill and around the convent, something i want to go back to .

I had a look at ferries to go to Ireland and there not cheap for a motorhome. Where's the cheapest to sail from and too?

Depends what your budget is, whether you think Ireland is worth the effort. Also what you personally consider "cheap". Everyone's views on "cheap" will differ. Price is also dependent on the size of your camper. Ours is a smaller size motorhome at 5.5 metres. We're also here for 5 weeks. For us, I think the ferry price is worth every penny. Also, you can't really get here easily in your motorhome any other way - maybe freight from Liverpool? I think that used to be an option, no idea if it still is... 🤔🤷‍♀️

We booked our ferry tickets several months ago, cost around the £400 mark (return) from Cairnryan to Larne, that included a little extra for flexi-tickets in case we wanted to change the sailing dates at any time.

Bodgerndog in Dumfries told us the other day that friends who regularly visit her every year are gobsmacked at the increase in price for their Amsterdam to Newcastle sailing! They always bring their dog with them. The price this year for that particular return ferry route ( 2 adults and a dog) is now just under the £2,000 mark... !!! 😳😱

They are now looking at air flights that take dogs instead... 🫤 😟
