This is unbelievably true!

An Obituary printed in the London Times ....... interesting and sadly rather true

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many

years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain;

Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but over bearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife,Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son,Reason...

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone.

Hi, I get no pleasure from saying that I highlighted this situation / state of the Nation in my Oxymoron thread a few months ago. As in whats your favourite oxymoron - "common sense" - because it really is not common any more.

Cor blimey. It's not like it was "in the old days", gov'ner ;)

No doubt they said the same thing in 1960, and will be saying it again in 50 years time :D

(BTW the Churches have always been businesses, no matter what denomination)

Hi Firebox,

Everything goes straight over your head does`nt it.

We oldies don`t have long left and can put up with this crap. We have made our money anyway.

You are the poor younger sod who has to live with it.

Why anybody wants to stay in this "multi-cultural" heaven beats me. There are much better countries than this one for somebody who wants a decent life.

The expected population will be 70 million by 2020. The extra numbers being made up by immigrants. I hope I am long gone by then.

Some haul of 'thanks' for the Big Gaffer there.

Not far off the mark was it?:(

Haha, I'm not that young (45). As it is I support all the scroungers and benefit seekers at present. I may soon be moaning about the "good old days" myself! I hope not though :D

And doesnt it piss you off, where are the winter fuel payments and the helping hand for the low paid of this country, you know the ones who would rather work and have some self respect, but would find that they are better off on the dole?Im only 38 but i resent like most people having to support the drug addicts alcoholics and the lazy who will do anything to not do a days work in their dirty worthless lives.I am afraid that we are the minorities.

We have one thing over you MAINGATE and thats age,it only supports my theories to live an alternate life,we are lucky to have money to invest(house) into telling brown e.t.c to **** off and that we are not going to carry on working to support M.Ps expenses immigrants and the degenerate underclass of society we have today among a few things. If Brown thinks i am working to remotely anywhere near the age of 70 then he is in for a shock. We are young enough to to be able to live a more active lifestyle and full time at a young age.
The way i look at it is there are far to o many migrants in this country so many so that i would rather spend most of our time in a warmer better country and integrate myself into their way of living which is more than what the migrants do when they come to these shores
In just a few years i will be in this country when it suits us and if it turns into a muslim state i will be gone for good.

Hi,
If you really have something to say then you need to just stand up and say it. Stop sitting on the fence.

I think one can look at the original post objectively though, and lay aside all the emotions.

Eg

Woman and hot coffee. That's a good point. There has been a silly increase in compensation culture over say the last 30-40 years.

Church becoming business. Just padding and waffle. They have always been businesses. For example Catholic priests always used to have spouses. What the church found was the women were outliving the priests who were often landowners and the money and land was going out of the church to the women or heirs. Therefore they changed the rules that a priest should be celibate. Ostensibly religious, but in truth purely financial. And that was back in the 14th century or sometime around then!

(reference for priests: http://www.libchrist.com/bible/catholiccelibacy.html Sorry it was 1139, not 14th C! )

Hehe, I'm always objective... well mostly :D

A bit of disagreement is healthy or we'd all be a bunch of fawning "yes men" (and women!)

Daytime temp in Lisbon is 17 degrees and that's bloody warmer than here. Had ice on the windscreen this morning :(

Just a thought but before people start branding whole sections of the community as scroungers and freeloaders, they ought to reflect on the fact that this is precisely how many people (dare I say it, the majority) see us. Why are we "stealing" space that doesn't belong to us instead of paying our way and staying at one of those nice CC sites???? Happy Christmas
