Red Flashing Oil Can and Message Change Engine Oil.

had my oil change & service done before we left on a 5000 mile trip because the service would have been due garage didn’t reset the service light and 700 mls from home got same warning a lot of unnecessary tension
That what's usually the cause if you leave it long enough it'll turn it's self off after about 1000 mls

So pleased my motorhome is an old girl, very basic setup hope all is ok.

Yes but it will still get an oil warning light if you let it get that low - my son asked about his light having come on - cant repeat here what i said to him

Thank for reminding me what an oil light does. just saying older vehicles are less complicated and hoped it could be sorted. hope you give him a good talking too. ;) ;):)

in my experience if anything goes drastically wrong with the oil system the engine is scrap metal before youve found somewhere to safely stop.
service reminders can usually be ignored for weeks/thousands of miles

If it is just flashing because it is wanting an oil change then you will be ok to finish your journey,
But if you don’t feel comfortable then just call into a garage and get the oil and filter changed,
Even Halfords would be able to do this for you.
They have not got the tools to reset the brain.

I have the tools to reset it and I have been retired a long time, I would be surprised if Halfords could not reset it but then again I have never used them, I personally would not worry about the warning light coming on, it isn't as though the oil is ok for 5000 miles then all of a sudden it will not get you any further, relax and enjoy yourselves for the rest of the holiday and take it to your normal garage when you arrive home.
A low level oil light is something different, I had a few customers who had old cars and they used to come in for an oil change when the light came on going around corners, at least I didn't have to drain much out

Thanks Tezza, I realise now that it is the handbook that is a bit over dramatic and needs to be toned down a bit for people like me who are relying on them.

hi. check your dipstick on level ground. if its a higher level than it should be it could be contamonated
with diesel due to doing a DPF regeneration. you would then change it sharpish.

Has it Worked
Yes it worked. The message change your oil, disappeared almost imediately. It took a good while longer for the flashing Red oil can to dissapear.

There seems to be some greater power trying to stop us Picts getting to Tintagel though. Today’s mishap........

Sandy thats a bummer about the screen hope that’s the last mishap and you enjoy the rest of your trip. Bonus good weather next week👍

Hard to change bonded screens,go to the best for that one,ins should cover you,aib do.

To save you worrying post your mileage from the last oil change, Fiat state 30.000 miles or two years, if it is less than this it is possible that it wasn't reset the last time it was changed

You can look in the menu ( use the mode button on the dash) and it will tell you how long ( mileage) you have before you need a service or change the oil. If this wasn’t reset after the last service, you should see the mileage left very low. Sometimes the ecu will put the vehicle into limp mode to stop you damaging the engine.

I'm not sure iff this applies to you. All our modern busses 2015 onwards, Mercs, crafters, fiats. Recycle the DPF crud after a regeneration cycle, into the Engine oil. A build up of the toxicity can put the oil change warning lamp on, long before the normal oil change is due.
Read into that what you will. I would have it changed fairly quickly, iff it was mine. However I'm quite anal when it comes to changing oil.
