Rear View Camera - which would you buy ?

Just as above but ours is powered from the habitation lighting circuit and is on full time when travelling. Just switch off the display and disconnect the feed to the cameras when parked up. Sometimes leave them powered up overnight if we feel in need of a bit of security, those little glowing 'eyes' at the back of the van send a message perhaps?

Got mine from Ebay and they've worked well enough for about six months so far apart from occasional misting of the cameras which is probably inevitable given the lenses are behind the same glass as the night vision leds, so I'd probably go for a better design of camera. Very handy having a rear view and a downward looking camera though, given the behemoth is 8 metres long. All up about £45 from memory, oh and 7'' screen.

Food for thought ...

Cheers

hi all from tomorrow i wont have internet access for a few days so will come back then and re-evaluate your responses and choose a product - thanks

chance would be a fine thing...... :anyone::anyone:

Well, if you insist, wear a skirt NYE and I'll have a nosey - just to be polite :)

If you have any possible way to avoid wireless, do so. It is pretty rubbish in real life. Works sometimes, but you can bet it won't when you really need it.

Two cameras would be my choice - one low down to see who you're about to hit, and one high up to see the bumper so you can park close to stuff.

Thanks - there seems to be a fair amount of criticism of wireless and my garage recommends a wired up system. i use my rear kitchen window to view lorries that are following me, but i have no way of knowing if there is a car close on my tail as my current rear camera is so small and old - so i like your, and others, ideas of having 2 cameras to assist in reversing and parking.

my current rear view screen on the dashboard is only 4" - and so i am used to a small screen. i will be using my garmin satnav also and that will be stuck onto the windscreen so i feel that a 7" camera-screen might reduce my own range of visibility through the windscreen.

Could you tell me the model you have please ? Thanks

sorry but no knicker-watching on NYE as i am unable to attend the meet.

Rear view camera

Hi
I went for this one off of Ebay as it came with the option of wired(came with 10m of video cable) or Wireless, it clips over rear view mirror which is redundant anyway(at least it is on my van!)
The beauty of this set up for me is the fact that it is wired to come on with the ignition so acts as a Rear view mirror not just when reversing so you can see whats behind at all times

Well I use wireless, and a cheap chinky one too !! It's never let me down either, but it does have added entertainment value too. I spent 25 ish km in Portugal watching a horses back end, going to Hollingworth lake meet I saw our 'van passing the clubhouse. You pick up all kind of security systems, truck rear views etc, but as a reversing camera it works just fine, and because it costs almost nuppence to buy, I'd still go for it.
ps. mine has built in reverse sensors too

Picking up other signals is one of the things you can bet will happen when you really need it.

NYE, booo. Why not? Lol. And I heard you didn't wear any...

I have some ebay wireless thing connected to the nozatech satnav. Which is alright, but not the 2 camera thing I would recommend. I've not looked any further into it sorry.

Waterproof Camera

Car Rear View Reverse CAMERA 18 LED IR REVERSING Waterproof Night Vision 12-24V | eBay

I fitted one of these, and, although it's cheap, it works fine, BUT, time will tell, because previous rear view camera's, that I have fitted, had water ingress problems, after a short time. Even expensive camera's can suffer from this.
This one is fine, at the minute, but has only been in use for about 6 months. Very pleased with the quality of it, so far.

But if you are really grown up about it, you only refer to the monitor when reversing. I parked in a pub car park a few months ago and got a television on it, no sound though, must have been a harmonic frequency I suppose.
Hard wiring is probably the best, but fiddly and because I am not very dexterous, I plumped for the wireless varient.

I buy mine from motormax uk company and warranty they do a fiat Ducati replacement brake light with built in camera and a MONITOR for £130
