hi all.... i am biting the bullet and getting a new one. The image/picture on my inherited ancient japanese system is on and off and up and down like tart's drawers. So which one do you like and why ..... thank you. btw my garage locally will fit it for me.....

Hi DG,

Just a thought, tho I note your comment about getting a garage to fit.

I fitted a wireless unit that works quite well, camera comes on when the reverse light does as that is the power supply.

I fitted the the screen to my sun visor and hard wired it, with a fuse to the interior, above windscreen, light.

Flip s/v down switch on, engage reverse and all good to go.

No details to hand but if you want full details send a pm and I’ll forward them. Cost £80ish from memory.

Have fun with the research ,

I would get one that shows a tarts drawers going up and down, where do they sell them?

I have also been searching the net for one, truth is though, there are as many rear view cameras as there are non english living in London...and that's plenty.
Seen reviews on the tube where so called experts say wireless ones are useless, and don't touch them etc..gives you the head pain looking and reading about all of them.
So I'm not myself, any wiser..but I deffo want,or should I say need one for the back of the truck with being on my own...maybe one of my dogs could be trained to back me up.................lol

If you are going to get a garage to fit it why not go to an auto electrician and get them to supply and fit, that way it is all warranted by the same company

Have you had a look here.

I have seen some really awful set ups, picture so bad it's almost pointless, and thats in the daytime, and also seen ones that are like a good TV day or night, sure they are not the cheapest ones though.

The ones with a twin camera may be useful if you don't have good vision through rear window.

Not much help really, but unless I had a recommendation I think I'd avoid the cheap ones, especially since you'll be paying to have it fitted.

Do not get the one I have just fitted if your behind a lorry with a camera fitted you can see yourself the radio will not work as the wireless sender interference nocks it off if you press the brake the screen goes off but it was cheep off eBay fitted by a garage and these problems should not be noticed.
It cost £16 and apart from picking lorries cameras up worth the money

The option I went for for my LT (LWB and 6.5M with spare wheel) was to go for a new Satnav that supported a Rear Camera.
Bought the Garmin Camper with Wireless rear camera from Amazon Warehouse Deals, so a good amount off the normal good Amazon price. Sat Nav switches to Rear Camera as soon as reverse selected and the image is as good as any wired system I have used (and I have had about 3 different manufacturers standard system).
Maybe more than you want to spend (probably don't need a new Sat Nav) but in case you were looking at Sat-Navs as well, I'd recommend this

I have fitted a wireless one for chap up my rd and it worked fine.my cam & screen is from ebay £35ish all in and works a treat ,it brightens or darkens according to light conditions,it does have parking bars on screen which i dont like and when i set rotation my way the bars are on top,not a loa use,but it is cristal clear on a big 7 inch screen, any thing less i think is a wast of money.
My cam is above rear n/plate looking down 45 deg,i would fit a hood as rain some times gathers on lens making a fisheye picture, other than above problems im very happy.

Thanks - this sounds interesting as i only have one satnav which i have to constantly move from car to van.

i use my current rear view camera all the time as if it were a rear view mirror so that i can see lorries behind me when driving along. Looking at some of these models it sounds as if they only show a picture when i put the van into reverse - have i misunderstood ? and which model did you buy please ? thanks

Try maplin

But
Rear view camera NOT to be confused with "upskirting"..Oh dear apologies all round !
Solve the problem... wear trousers !

I've also used 'parkingcameras.com'. I fitted the twin camera setup with the mirror mount screen which clips over existing mirror. One camera faces back for rear view and the second wide angle camera points down for reversing. It has been fitted a couple of years with no problems. I have actually got a third camera (wide angle) fitted below my bike rack as when I have bikes on all I can see is the bike cover. Buy good buy once!

Check the screen size lots of the cheaper ones are only 4.5" you need a 7" one to save straining looking at the pic. when reversing . Had mine wired into the side lights so I can perodically check behind me on the move ....
