Peugeot Boxer Coolant Header tank 1996 2.5TD

Thanks

Those later Ducato ones dont look a million miles off.

I went back out and had another look and there is a third hose attached to mine at the bottom left corner. Its impossible to tell if the two Ducatos ones posted above have that. My screw on cap also has what looks like a breather tube. I could message the seller and send them my photos and see what they say.

Mine has a third hose bottom left, here is another picture of the 2002 header tank with a code on it,
Manufacturer code A965

Mine also has 3rd lower hose...
Bulkhead fixings are 200 mm apart

Hose from your cap will likely just go to an open end so any excess coolant is vented to the road

Any tank can be made to fit, no matter how many outlets or where they are on the tank, what you do require is a slap round the ears with a wet lettuce leaf for ar-ing around with glues which I said wont work on thermal plastics.

Got the van out for a short run today and the flaming coolant header tank is busted. I remember one of the outlets developed a small split about eight years ago and the mechanic couldnt get a new tank so he just glued it. Well its knackered again and sure enough, googling around I cant immediately find one. I suspect there will be one somewhere at a breakers if I do a bit more research but do you think its worth attempting another repair? It looks like the bit of plastic tubing the rubber hose goes onto has just split. you can now just pull it off with very little effort. See photos below.

And here it is detached. I would prefer to get it fixed here with maybe the help of my neighbour as taking it to a garage is just a complete PIA.

Just an idea. Consider a 'near same design' used replacement off e bay breakers, possibly even from a different manufacturer , I'm a VW owner, design of header tank has not really changed over last twenty years, measure up your stubs diameter, and if you have a simple level sensor and wiring plug, good luck with a cheap fix. 🙂

a co called autodoc look like they do them
AUTODOC are pretty good, only thing to be aware of is they are in Europe (Germany?) and it sometimes takes a couple of weeks for delivery (but that might be because I’m a cheapskate and won’t pay 24 courier costs 😇)

Just to give you another alternative, have you looked at the universal header tanks that are advertised on eBay. Maybe one of these could be adapted to fit.
Hope this helps

I think thats what I bought and had to send back. There was no way it would have fit.

One of the links posted earlier from ebay seems to be the closest option

I messaged the seller and he is going to check the connections on it and he is also breaking a 1994 talbot express which may have a similar tank to mine if that one is no good.

The seller from Ebay has been back to me. He reckons the one from the Talbot wont fit but found an earlier 2.8 model that he thinks will. This guy "Dave" has been really helpful so ill give him a plug here. Looks like he sells all sorts of similar stuff so might be worth bookmarking.

Anyway these are the pics he sent me. He thinks from my pics the angle of the bottom pipe might be a little different but if there is room to move the pipe it should fit. It looks the same to me

what do we think?

Just been out and had a look. The downward pipe on the replacement tank might be slightly sticking out at more of an angle but there is space behind it anyway. It doesnt look like it from the photo but that stuff behind it is like felt sound proofing stuff or something and it moves. There is about two inches to play with behind there. Could do with some new Jubilee clips though! :D

It is pressurised, it has a pressure cap which does the same function as the old style radiator cap so don't remove it on a hot engine without taking precautions or you risk being scalded
Yes I know it is - but it’s my typing fingers acting the fool. I’ll give them a good talking to.

Looks identical to the one on my 2004 ducato....
Think it'll be fine

Ive ordered it so we will see!
IF the distance between the mounting bolts (around 200mm on mine)
And its got the same, number of stubs
And roughly the same physical size it should be fine

It's not unusual for some components to stay the same (or very close) for several generations.

Thanks. We will find out as its hopefully on its way here soon. Once the old one is off I might see if I can also get it professionally repaired then sell it on Ebay for £1000 as its quite possibly the last one ever on the planet! :D Seriously though, might be worth it as a back up. Would have preferred a new one really and had we had mechanics up here that are actually prepared to work on the flaming thing and go the extra mile I might have got one.
